stones workable days gas and oil extent of development and prospects and possibilities of development Upon the first of these subjects we herewith produce Mr Searcys views reserving his second paper for our next issue It may be remarked that there is no man in the county more compet ent than Mr Searcy to discuss these important subjects his fitness and capacity having been repeatedly recog nized by his selection to read papers before the State Industrial Convention at Louisville Mr Searcy was restrict ed to two hundred words and hence be does not attempt to treat the subjects exhaustively On aid of outside capital and enercy Lets than a dcadeslnce this thin soil Was thought to be too poor to sprout black eyed peas but as if by magic this poor sandy clay soil has changed Ji a few years to a blooming anti fertile garden The land when properly tilled and fertilized is adapted to the growth of small fruits and vegetables and today there are not less than one hundred small farmers profitably raising fruits and vegetables where ten farmers for wetly barely made a living Iletiee there is not as ttinch interest taken in the industrial development on the pos sibilities demand bbt previous to her marriage a Miss Gentry her father being Dr Gentry long since deceased At the outbreak of the civil war in 61 the family was broken up the three sons Flavins Xapoleon and Dr Gentry Jr taking up arms for the South There and then censed all knowledge of the whereabouts of the three brothers Her parents died and Miss Gentry was united marriage to Mr T P Dudley of tins county brother of the distinguish ed and beloved President of George town College Dr Kil Dudley LIe ceasedAbout one year ago Mrs Dudley saw in the Courier Journal an announce ment that an old Confederate soldier In a Southern State had in his posses- sIon a volume of Shakespeare that he had lakeu oil the corpse of a comrade who fell in the battle of Missionary Ridge and on the fly let was the sig nature Dr Gentry Mrs Dudley at once wrote to tire gentleman for the book but the latter demanded some proof of her identity as the sister of the dead soldier whereupon she sent a faded letter received before
