You must denounce and resist overy encroachment upon your rights, because the great isle of the time is strewn with tho wrecks of the institu tions of men that were ruined by the debauchery of their citizens. They were indifferent lo their rights.in their indifference to present policies rather than to eternal principles. (Applause.) You lately framed a constitution in Kentucky. Let me read you a section of it. Section 151: "Tho general as sembly shall provide suitable means for depriving of office any person who to secure his nomination," mark you 'or election, has in his canvass or elec tion, been guilty of the unlawful use of money or other thing of value, or has been guilty of fraud, (applause) intim idation, bribery or any other corrupt practices." (Applause.) "And he shall be responsible for acts done by others with his authority, or ratified by him." (Applause.) (This section was by request from the audience read the second time.) That is the present con stitution of Kentucky. Is there a Geobel lawyer in Kentucky here or in the limits of the common wealth, having the least self respect, to put his that would be willing name to an opinion that the nominee of the late Louisville convention did not fall within the inhibition of that section of tho constitution? (Applause.) You will see that it says that the general assembly shall provide. Upon examination of the laws 1 have found that the general assembly has not done its duty. It has not provided for frauds except in elections. The law does not refer to fraud done in nominations, but under the spirit of this constitution, under its honorable interpretation, un der its application as was intended, is there an honest man in Kentucky today, be he Republican, or Democrt, or prohibitionist, or populist, or what not, that can read tiiat law, which is the su preme law of your State, and say that had tho legislature done its duty and passed the law that they were com manded to pass by theconstitution.that even if this man were elected, any honest court in Christendom, under tho evidence and under the proof, that men within twenty feet of me here can furnish, but would not turn him out.
