ITEMS CAUGHT IS A SHOWER OF NEWS. dropsy; two-tht- cn-.e- s mwmm up-to-da- te The way the good people of Boyle go about a public undertaking like a county Fair, is worthy of emulation. There is :i unity of purposo.and a community of interest there which augurs well the success of the meeting. The Advocate thus describes the sen timent that fosters the fair in Boyle: If you don't believe theNew Danville Fair Association is in earnest about this thing, you should have been at the meeting of the Board of Directors yesterday afternoon. Farmers, business and professional men left their duties and attended the session and every item that was brought up was earnestly considered. There will be some wheel racing not enough to worry tho old folks, but suf ficient to amuse the young. There aro also splendid prospects of procuring the services of the famous First Regiment Military Baud, of Louisville. This organization is pretty stiff in its terms, but all good things come high, and the Association wants to get nothing but tho best. Everybody will want to see the musicians whose melody WS mingled with the whirr and whiz of American bullets. But if the soldier band can not be employed, another about as good will be. The catalogue committee is busy fixing up the stock rings and premiums in other departments, and the book will be in the hnnds of the printers the first of next week. There will be three thous and copies, which will make plenty for all purposes. In addition to this, the premium list will be published in the Advocate fourteen times for a month prior to the opening. Keep tho date in mind and remember that, one day will be just as good as fair; Aug. another at this 30, 31, Sept. 1. At the meeting yesterday afternoon, E. P. Faulconer, B. G. Mary.-Beasleycar-loa- is one of the war books which is likely to be in continuous demand. It is a panoramic record of the triumph of Yankee Doodle. Tho etgle flaps his wings on every page, and ''Old Glory" waves around aud above every scene. Prominent officers connected with tho war are here portrayed, as well as many of tho "men behind the gun." Military life is pictured to the eye, from recruiting to guard mount and skirmish line. Nor is the ludicrous omitted. The company cook receives the attention due to his importance; the mess is shown; cavalry scenes are givnn; tho hospital arrangements are depicted; tie heroines of the Red Cioss service aie displayed; streetscenes in Havana Santiago and elsewhere are unrolled, the new citizens or subjects (which are they?) of Uncls Sam appearand disappear as the leaves are turned.
