If you find any who did not vote for Mr. McKinley in 1890, advocating this step, you will probably also llnd upon investigation, that their circumstances and conditions have chatiirc'l since 1800. and that they havo alliances or employment now that they did not have in 18'JG. It is said that Mr. Croker and those belonging to him, are now favoring the omission of that plank from tho platform of next year, and that Mr. Croker and his following supported Mr. Uryan in 1806. There are no Democrats in this country excent Chicago platform Democrats. There is no division between Democrats. There is no lack of harmony among Democrats. They are of the same mind, the same opinion, and there is no occasion and no use for any cry for harmony, used as a pretext to induce Democrats to concede to their enemies a part of that in which they believe and for which they are contending. Dem ocracy means more than it ever meant before. It means a formulated, organ ized, forceful and earnest defense by seven million Americans against the ag greesions, the extortion and the robbery of organized wealth, aud against the proposition that the government of this country onght to be administered bv organized wealth instead oLby the people. The sun of Clovelaudism has set, never to rise again, while upon tho hori zou we can see the coming light and promise of free government, and the de struction of corporate and capitalistic power, presaging the rising in effulgence and glory of the sun of William J. Bryan, of Nebraska. 1 say tliore is no lack of harmony. I will not say that New York is tho enemy's country, but I will say that New York is a country in possession of the enemy. Tens of thousands of men are kept out of the Democratic party in the Slate of Now York, because of their hatred of Crokerism in Kow York Citv. Hundreds of thousands of men in this country are kept out of the Democratic party they do not care to be used to support and maintain nnd uphold Crokerism, and the practice of Crokerism, in New York City, and they do not want to be parties to any attempt to fasten that system upon the administra tion of the affairs of the national government. If you will think you will he able to see that Crokerism has never brought anything to the Democratic party It did assist in the election of G rover Cleveland, but it assisted in bis election after a conference in New xork City in which a contract was entered into bv which the Democratic party of the United States pledged the accomplishment of a purpose foreign to the party, and for which it was not organized, and for the benefit of a few politicians in Icv York City. If both these propositions are true, which I don't believe, I would say that it is better for tho country, and better for Democracy, that we should not win. It is better to have defeat without Crokerism than victory with it. There is only one way by which the assistance of Crokerism can be had, and that way is by purchase, and that purchase would mean a pledge that a Democratic ad ministration, if elected, should fail to carry out the promises of the platform upon which it went into power, and should divert the Democratic organization and tho Democratic administration to purposes and ends directly contrary to the wish and will of the Democracy of the land, and of those who created the lf 1 lf fund in 1896. Why .is it that General Eagan is r.ot summarily dismissed? He was guilt-o- f couduct grossly unbecoming one In his position, although all that ho said about Goneral Miles may havo been true, but General Eagan has not been dismissed; he has beori relieved of work for six years, and at the end of that time ho will have arrived at the age to be retired and will still continue to draw after that, over $4,000 a year in pay, and if ho lives out his expectancy ol life, he will in the next seventeen years, draw $ 7S.000 from the people of theUnited States as.a gift from President Hanna.
