since and I perceived it was relished Iud appreciated by the reading public I will now proceed to give an account of the section called the Sour Woods This section with its cnvironmonls is in the eastern part of the county com mencing where the Slashes end and extends to the Estill county line some five or sitidies in width aud ten or twelve in length from Noith to South It contains the villages of Doylesvillu TJniui Urookstown College Hill By bectoun WHCO Elliston and Sloberley I do uot Imo why it is dubbed by this name unless it is the sourness of the flowers grass fruit and trees The people appear to be as pleasant as any in the county so it is not on the ac count of the people I suppose some of the people lire lIS sweet as sugar or Masses especially the girls One of the principal creeks of the county is in this section Muddy Creek I do not know why it was called by this epithet unless it was on account of its muddy water This section has been very fortunate in the electing of its candidates for oflico many of them have sucked the public teats a long time and have become by this time quite a lot of tiuckur- sVOYIHSVILIIs In tho extreme Northern part near tho Kentucky river It is not as woll known as the other tuwns named as it doos not lie on the route of general public travel Tho country surrounding is somowhai tchoolIThis section is very proliefic for Pottery Works If the people of Waco have no money banks they have largo banks of potters clay and if it WaR developed it would be a source of great revenue to those people Flat woods meeting house is near this place It is a great place for revivals ELLISTOX Is near Waco a half mile west It is located on Muddy Creek It has a good school Baptist church and a good grist mill run by steam or water One was one worthy of special mention It was a beautiful lamp presented to Mr Chins Waller by his Bible class At the close Old Santa presented special prizes to Misses Lure Ellison aud Eva Rainy for best lessons and most faithful attendance The tree aside from the presents put on by friends was a gift to the Sunday school from that most estimable Christian lady Mrs Sam Barnes whose untiring efforts assisted by other good people of that vicinity have made the Sunday school a grand success Altogether the occasion was one long to be remem beret by many happy hearts several of whom have but recently
