direction of sound money and I was confident the convention would pass sound money resolutions and so predicted in an interview which I gave the Simitar some ten days ago However I was not prepared for the passage of the resolutions by a Â¬ Â¬ majority of nearly three to oue I emocrats have heretofore differed in regard to the meaning of the national platform of s2 I believe with Mr Cleveland it meant the maintainenee of all our money on a parity and that the free coinage of silver at the ratio of Hi to was impossible if that was done The indorsement by the Kentucky convention of the platform of 18B3 the Administration ol Mr CleveHnd and the official coarse of Mr Carlisle his Secretary of the Treasury is not only an indorsement of the Chicago platform but of the con struction which Mt Cleveland and Mr Carlisle in their official conduct placed on that platform This is certainly all that any friend of sound money could ask In mv judgement the effect of this action on the part of Kentucky Democracy will be very great throughout the Sooth The movement everywhere is in the direction of sound money and this action will accelerate it very greatly I anticipated the nomination of ien Hardin When 1 was in Kentucky some two weeks ago it was understood that Gen Hardin was looking to the aid of tl e sound money men for his nomination an I then knew that many sound nion ey men would support him As Oovern or he w ill have nothing to do with the question and as no one proposes to exclude free silver men or men from the party on account of differ-Â¬ ences on the currency iiuestion bis nomination under all circumstances was perhaps wise It would be just as logical to say that Mr Cleveland was in favor of free silver liecause he had appointed a great many free silver of the three imixirtant minor affairs of Browns Ferry Wauhatchie and Orchard Knob Nearly all of the great armies of the Fnion and of the South led by many of the foremost chieftains on each side took part in these engagements The Confederacy rallied from every section to save Chatta stronghold nooga its mountain the centre of its railroad system and the gateway to its cotton belt The North ess men from Maine Minnesota and Missouri and from every State within those outposts of her military power and with these tones were first Rose- crans Thomas Bragg and Longstreet and then Grant Sherman and
