which attacks all ages and conditions of people is likely to be more serious in the case of children than in that of adultsIn people an attack of acute laryngitis is rarely fatal al though its Weir Sr lived in Greenville all his life and is now buried there Edward R Weir Sr was born in Greenville on Nov 1816 and died Feb 5 1891 He was an influential merchant lawyer and politician an author a slave holder an abolitionist and a strong Union man He was and charitable always active in church work and in the elevation of his fellow man Nearly every act in bis life was directed toward the moral and commercial good Muhlcnbcrg county The large brick residence erected E R Weir Sr about the year 1850 on south Main street at the foot oWIopkinsville was in its day one of the best built homes in the county It not only afforded him and family every possible comfort but stood as an example of what enterprise can do He dug what is probably the most symetrical stonelined well ever made in Ken of our electric light service compares with the very best plant in the country and is much superior to that of many towns in this section of this size And shows that we have about the cheapest rate to be found Elk ton has for about two months been enjoying the advantages of electric lights and has excellent service the people immensely The rates there are almost treble ours on the whole The flat rate is 65 cents per month per light while the meter rate has a minium of 3 per month which is generally exceeded by most users The people there however are enthusiastic beyond expression and arc Christian church She was a daughter of Sammuel B and Agnes Pritchett Nisbet who were among the early settlers of the state It was a large and il Francis M and iv I Nisbet being brothers and Amanda Summers Wealthy Ann Cox and Mary Lucinda Todd being sisters Of these only the last named sister survives In 1843 she was married to Charles Richard Todd of revolutionary fame Her husband precceded her to the 33 years ago She was the mother of three chil dren Agnes Elizabeth Todd Valeria Ann Morrison and Benjamin L of whom survive her Minnie Summers Martin a neice she also reared from infancy She was a woman of rare traits and was loved by all who came in contact with her Be ing of a cheerful and pleasant and a great reader she was a splendid conversationalist and tired of conversing with met She was a generous hostess and an agreeable guest She was a devoted wife and a loving mother Her life was one of self sacrifice for those around her nnd she was never i than when helping the poor attending to the wants of a sick neighbor She led a very active life and was always a regular amend ant at SJic enjoyed reading her church paper and daily read her wellworn ftible She was a woman of Light and Water Co held after the annual meeting of the Stockhold ers on Sept 5 1910 the following motion was made and carried unanimously by the eight Directors present That the price charged per thousand gallons for water in the city of Greenville be raised from 25c per thousand gallons to 40c per thousand gallons and that the manufacturing rate be raised from 15c per thousand gallons to 20c per thousand gallons the minimum charge of 100 per month to remain the same but to cover only two thousand five hundred gallons of water This change to go into effect on Oct 1 1910 The board of Directors wish to set forth to the citizens of Greenville the reason for this action The Company has in vested at the present time in the Water Works the sum of 2160088 from which it derived an income during the last year of 224414 this being less than one half of the annual income from the Light plant or the Ice plant each of which represent a smaller investment than the Water plant There is a considerable portion of the city which does not have the water service and the citizens residing there are justly calling for water mains Considering this fact together with the fact that the income from the Water plant does not pay the expenses the Board of Directors decided that the only action they could take which would be fair to the citizens and the Stockholders would be to raise the rate
