distinct physical faults having causes behind them which give different results Correctly speaking stammering menus an inability to render sounds properly while stuttering means an inability to join sounds properly Stammering tray be due to sonic im perfection in the spjcch urgtns or to a wrong use or position of the muscles which control speech while stuttering is really a spasm of those musclesIt from this that the stam merer will constantly make the same mistake A certain letter or combi nation of letters will overthrow him each time they occur When the trouble is due to some organic perfection in the organs of speech such as cleft palate harelip or tongue the first treatment must be surgical After that if the patient be an adult there will have to be lessons and practice to teach him to pronounce properly the letter or letters he has never be fore been able to say When there is no organic defect the trouble is often simply a bad habit persisted in from childhood Almost all small children stammer all adults find the trick cunning with disastrous results in many cases in after life Any speech defect that is the consequence of bad habit and laziness calls fur educational treatment and the younger the patient is the easier the cure will be When th bid habit has been one of years standing it is often hard just as it is hard for most adults to learn a foreign language Stuttering on the other hand is entirely a nervous disorder and in bad cases amounts to an absolute spasm of the speech muscles A stutterer khpwspcrfccUy to say and how it should sound only he cannot get it out The nervous basis of stuttering is shown in many ways S me persons stutter when they arc tired but not when rested or they stutter with strangers and not with friends or when they are in poor health but not when they arc well They arc likely to be sensitive thin skinned people keenly aware of the ludicrous side of their misfortune Treatment cannot be begun too early and must be patiently carried out The much advertised brilliant and rapid cures one heals of are very likely to relapse and the cure of stuttering is not a matter of a few weeksChildren should never be punished or ridiculed for stammering or stilt tering They should be taught to stop short draw a long breath and and begin afresh Special attention to deep calm breathing is a most important element in the cure of stuttering The Senate has appropriated 50 ooo for the purpose of establishing a biological station to study the con tagious diseases of fish Cancer is one of these diseases A careful study of these diseases in fish may result in assisting the medical pro fession in alleviating one of the most dreadful of human afflictions It is reported that the Lehigh Railroad will soon put in service a dining Christ Reference is had to the two covenants two promises to Abraham the first was developed into a covenant with laws and blessings through Moses It gave to the sccd of Abraham the land of Canaan from the Bible The house of Moses over which he ruled was a type of a better house over which Christ was to rule The second piomisc to Abraham was that of his seed should all the nations be blessed While the prom ise developed by Moses into a coy enant was literal that of Christ is spiritual Moses was faithful in all his house as a servant for a of those things which were to be spoken afterwards But Christ as a son over his own house Which house are we The Church of Christ is meant here over which lie as head rules With some people the idea still obtains that the house of Moses was transferred from under the law and placed under grace and that time house of Moses and the house of Christ arc identical or in other words the Church of Christ today is the same house in which Moses ruled How such an idea ever with any one who reads Gods works is a mystery for there is not a particle of evidence of such a thing in the Bible but every evi dence to the contrary Daniel in his prophecies tells of the lays of certain kings and says in those days God would set up a kingdom lIe did not say God would reconstruct the house of Moses but would build a house a kingdom Jeremiah said this house or covenant would not be like the first it was to be a new house or covenant Israel said it was to be a new house with a new name Tina old one was to be destroyed The apostle Paul contrasts this material Christ was to build his church house In the preparation of this material the fact of our being a member of the house of Moses was of no avail Johns mission was not to prepare a wlich to transfer the house of Moses over under grace was not to prize up the house of Moses and put wheels under it thus getting it ready so Christ could roll it over into his own dispensation No he went into the forest the trees lined and hewed to the line the claim of being of Abra hams side or a member of the house of Moses was worth nothing to them John laid down the terms First they must believe in the coming Christ Second they must repent Third they must be baptized for time remissions of sins During the ministry of John of Christ and the seventy evangelists the work of each was preparatory In the midst of this work while John time Baptist had been in his grave for more than a year Christ said to his disciples On this rock I will build my church house which shows at that time that his
