of the Civic Committee is also State Chairman of Civics She has sent out the following pertinent questions Is your town clean Are your front yards attractive and your back yards orderly Are there tomato cans bish on your streets Arc you planting trees and vines to insure beauty and retain the moisture in the soil Is your drinking water wholesome or is there a tendency towards ty phoid and other dread diseases which remains unchecked Is your street lighting furnished at a moderate cosi Are your schools modern and the curriculum sensible and the teachers well paid Ob your citizens like to seethe best men in office or do they some times incline to the inefficient And do your best men sometimes have no time tor civic duties Do the woman of your town so arrange their time that they have leasure to read together about civic improvements and educational ques lions or are they inclined to give too much time to trifling occupations Are the young girls growing up to value and participate in the house hold arts or are they inclined to thrbw everything they think dis agreeable upon their mothers Bronchitis Bronchitis Is the name given to any inflammation of the mucous membrane of the bronchial tubes In the fairly healthy adult an attack of acute bronchitis is not a very terrifying thing although it is most distressing and disagreeable It Is as if an severe cold thou of the tubes results m a con stant cough and sense of breathless ness The temperature rises the patient feels sick the more so that the incessant coughing does not result in the throwing off se cretion to speak of In a day or two the inflammation inthe tubes subsides the tempera ture goes down there are less and less sense of oppression and the se cretion gradually becomes freer From this point there is gradual re covery as from an ordinary had cold On the other hand inle very old or very young or with those whose power of resistance are less ened any cause whatever bron chitis is a dangerous disease It has a tendency to run from the acute into the chronic form in which the sufferer may be perfectly well during the summer months or while in a warm climate but at the least chill or exposure must expect and get his inevitable attack of with symptoms persisting until the return of warm weather The moral of this is that it is most essential to give proper treatment during the acute stage The need of watchful care during a bronchial attack will be the more appreciated when it is understood that such an attack may be the beginning sign and warning of a tuberculous trouble and furthermore that whooping cough and measles sometimes begin that way In any case whether the attack be simple bronchitis or a warning of some other trouble the first rule should be straight to bed In fact this good oldfashioned rule at the onset of any type of socalled be bettered A wise secondary rule is to stay in bed till the temperature has been normal for a day or two If this were observed relapses would be fewer and convalescences shortened Never mind how mild the trouble promises to be a physican should be at summoned not only be cause he only incompetent to recog nize danger signals in Owens boro This will be the only op portunity this year of seeing the best of all circus entertainments This is the show that amazed New York City with its European com patty t f actors and its
