of Judge R O Pace who intends to make it i desirible and newsy sheet one that shall be up to date and with the characteristics and spirit of the age the demands nd needs of the times Judge Pace has the nerve the push and the ability to do it We have known him since his early years and know that he deserves great credit and the and wish of the people of the county for his course and conduct in life If there ever was a self made man Judge Pace is certainly one he has come up con fronted with difficult circumstances and unfavorable conditions in the battle of life and on account of an unfortunate physical disability he has had to depend solely upon his intellectual acquirements his mental activities and energies to reach his present status and in his manly ef fort to reach the higher plains of life he has developed and man tamed a high amoral lnrd of de portmcnt worthy of public recog nitiun Judge Pace has the will and can make the way and we believe that he shall put the Kentucky Re publican which continued about two years Anthony was succeeded by M D Hay who published paper styled The Independent a Demo cratic paper in opposition to Horace Greely for president The Jude pendent was succeeded by The Ga zette a Democratic paper conducted by John OKlahcrty The Gazette was succeeded by the Muhlenbcrg Echo Democratic paper conducted by Urey Woodson from Princeton Ky Woodson was succeeded C W Short he was succeeded William Eaves he was succeeded by R Y Thomas Jr and he was succeeded H C Snoddy Oricn L Road The Echo was then succeeded by the Muhlcnbcrg cr Democratic conducted by T J Coates Cardwell and Martin The Muhlcnbergcr was succeeded by the Greenville Banner Democratic by W L Phillips Then in 1899 came THE RECORD indepcnd cat conducted by Orien L who has been on the tripod longer than any man ever In the county and coexistent with the RECORD came The Tribune independent conducted by Wm Sweeney and the Muhlenberg Herald indcpend ent conducted by 1 J Fleming and last but not expected to be least shall come the Muhlenberg Sentinel the second Republican paper ever published in Greenville Now since the publication of The Kentucky Republican by Anthony forty years ago many changes taken place both in Greenville and the county people have been and died have become rich and poor have rejoiced and suffered and the world has kept revolving horsy years ago U S Grant president of the United States now not found Thomas C McCreery and Garrett Davis were the United States Senators from Kentucky Wm N Sweeney was the congress man from our then district F M Allison was our state senator Dr Hays was the representative of our county all of whom are not now found Geo C Rodgers of Cowling Green was our circuit court judge elected in 1868 the successor to R T Petree of Hopkinsville who was the civil war judge Rodgers died during the summer of 1870 and was succeeded by R C Bowling of Rus selhille who filled out his unexpired term Rodgers held his last court in our county during April 1870 Chas K Milliken was our common wealth attorney N J Harris the circuit court clerk they are not now found Our county officials forty years made
