These early symptoms nre a ring of the sight objects being ob served as it were through a a ring of various colors Irk A rain bow surrounding a bright light and more or less dull headache The physician when c nsultd regarding these symptoms will find the pupil somewhat chitted and sometimes rather oval in shape the cornea slightly cloudy and dropsi cal and the eyeuall harder than normal indicating an increased pressure of fluid within These troubles usually subside after a few hours but return again in a few weeks or months and 10 recur at gradually shorten ing intervals for perhaps a year or two until the actual disease begins There Is one symptom wlich does not remit and the presence of which should always excite suspicion this is a sudden increase in presby opia or far sight calling for stronger glares such sudden deterioration vision occuring in one past fifty should mean an visit to the oculist not the opticianThe of the developed attack when it is of the inflamma tory es es eeseeoooes clamored thcr WWWWWW- Now Rcul and those Demoskites that were s lots of the people went all over the province and the various spies would inform them with whom to commune aud they would tell the people that if they would m them rulers that they would free the people of the pro wince from all debt and reduce tHe tribute and and the people of the province would prosper under their control This greatly pleased all those that were uninformed about the workings of tribe religion Now when Pilate had heard the report of Tiberius Pilate said unto them Know ye not that I have glad tid ings for you and all those directly engaged in the conspiracy I have been to Bethabara and unto Lode ber and have made arrangment for a sufficient amount of shekels wine and strong drink to be used in the conspiracy and we shall be to meet all demands and promises on the day of casting lots We shall have in our treasury over fifteen thousand shekels and shall have from two to five hundred for each synagogue which must be placed in the care of each priest of the synagogue I have secured a sufficient amount of lot registers for each priest to use as a safeguard in buying lots this register will regis ter every lot that is sold and those that cannot be trusted must use the register in order to receive their shekels Now this register men tioned by Pilate is aningcnious de vice concocted crafty Demos kite for the purpose of buying lots called by the Greeks a Batwing Now when Pilate had thus discours ed with them concerning their duty he said unto them Behold the day for casting draweth nigh and we must work for yet ten days and we shall know the result of our conspiracyNow Repusite chief priests and those that were asking for lots were indifferent as to what the De were doing in their con spiracy for they went about so quietly making no boasts The Repusites looked upon the con spiracy with amusement and criti cism at first they thought that it would terminate like the other con spiracles that had been waged in a failure and they put great in their tribe religion and were not aware of and dissatisfaction that was cised in their own tribe and took but little notice of what was going on in the province But during the month of Elul they began to have suspicion that something was wrong and began to inquire and consider about the for they had been informed by some loyal Repusites that the conspiracy was having its desired effect and was becoming a serious proposition to be consider ed and looked after They had no spies in the province but the old veteran Repusites would warn them that danger was ahead that many of the Repusites and the Ethiopians were becoming insurgents and pros elytes unto the Pempskjtes but the enthusiastic young Rppusitcs WQQ tell them that their success was sure and it was not until the month of Tishri and after the conspiracy had been iu operation for over six months and about thirty days be fore the casting of lots that they began to know and fully realize that the conspiracy was wielding a won derful influence among the people of the province so the Repusite chief priests together with those that were asking for lots communed with one another and they agreed it would be best to go out and blow their trumpet along the highways and public places thinking that such would frighten anil intimidate the Demoskite conspirators and would rally the Repusites NOW they challenged the conspirators to meet them at their trumpeting places but the conspirators paid no to their challenge so the trump eting failed to have its usual effect and but few Repusites and no De moskites would attend the places The Ethiopians seemed to be careless and not so enthusiast ic as usual so the chief priests and those that were asking for lots be gan JD bp a little uneasy but still ing ax prepared n bOa II no kites the dissenuon beingexer attention I j 5 t 1piiti t i If i f tike lots confidence matter trumpeting 1titiLStMP relying upon tribe religion sent out ther pipers to pipe but many of the Repusite insurgents and those that were under the influence of the conspiracy refused to dance and yet they thought it was to use shekels and wine to combat the conspirators They sent out Sextus and others who blew loud trumpets to keep the Repusites fully awake so that they could at tend the synagogues on the day casting of lots which wits then rear at handNow a few days before the time for casting of lots Pilate called to gether at Greeber the chief priests those that were asking for lots the priests of the different synagogues together with the spies and emissaries and he took them irf bis communion chamber and he said unto them Brethren and noble Demoskites four days more and our conspiracy will be a great victory and we shall gain the control of the province Never before was there such a complete organized conspiracy waged and all the com bined powers of the Repusites can not break the chain which we have linked together in the conspiracy The Repusites have no organization they have no shekels or wine no disciplined leader and they have made but little effort to defeat our conspiracy until we have hedged them They are rely ing on tribe religion which will fail them for according to the report of our spies ye have the promise that three hundred of the RepijsJies wjll not attend the synagogues during the day of the casting of lots and three hundred that will sell us their lots so we arc perfectly safe Now we want the priests ot the various tojourtreasurers and draw their portion of shekels wine and registers necessary for the conspiracy so each priest was furnished with their amount of shek els registers wine and strong drink by the treasurer delivered to them by the chief butler and they return ed to their synapogue boundaries to get ready and give Instructions to their spies and emissaries to select suitable pages and butlers to during the casting of lots Now some of the priests gave feasts and entertainments to the insurgent Re pusites during the day of casting lots such did Mozart of Ephod synagogue boundary whjch borders on the river Pq some of the priests persuaded and prepared ways for the Ethiopians to go on pleasure trips by giving them shekels wine and flesh pots in order to away from the synagogues fearing that they would cast their lots against them and 39 the Ethiopians love wine and shekels more than they do their religion they were de coyed away from the synagogues Now the casting of lots took place on the second day of the month ot Marchesvan and lots were cast bought and sold from the hour of six in the morning until the hour of four iu the evening and the worked in completeness and japfionyf and when the lots were all cast and counted it yqs fotnj the Uomoskjte conspiracy h d prevailed and that Ruel Kato Ra hab Judas and Raraases were as rulers ot the province of Mu nin and those Repusites that had asked for lots were rejected anti was a great surprise NOW qs soon as the lute were counted they were reported at once to Pilate at Pilates communion hall at Grccber where all the chief priests and friends of the conspiracy were and hcn it was ascer tained that the conspiracy had they all began to rejoice with pile accord ant when they had with one anpther for Pilate seeing that Didymus was not present made a search for him and found him not and he say eth unto Herod Where is Didymus that he is not here rejoicing with us And Herod sayeth unto Pilate I know not where he is and Pilate sayeth unto Herod Send out and bring him hither So Heron dis patched two pages to hunt for Di dymus and when they found him he was in his own room praying and they said unto him Arise and s U of andcouncil It s E toSP i keepthem that such rejoiced n t t l aji 7r unnecessary roundabout o ucs operate conspiracy chosen assembled prevailed sometime 5 rye go with us Pilate has sent for thee to conic to the communion hall that he hath good news for thee So Didymus arose and followed them and when they came to the com munion hall they took him in and the chief priests and scribes saw Didymus had come they showed him the results of the casting of lots and when Didymus saw it he cried out and said Now is satisfied for I have seen the sal vation of the Dcmoskites and my tribe has been redeemed from under the rule and dominion of the Repu sites Blessed be the name of the Jeffus and Jakcn for he has heard the prayers of his people and hath withheld the curse and judg ment that he has long inflicted upon the Demoskites for ihe sins and in iquities of our fathers and hath giv en unto the Demoskites the land of Muttic to rule over Now let me go in peaceNow after they had rejoyced awhile Haman rose up and beckon ed unto the assembly and said Brethren I think that we should offer thanks and adoration to the our tribe for what he has done for us in our conspiracy I shall ask Daniel to offer prayer Daniel then lifted up his voice and Oh thou God of Jeffus and Jakcn and of the Demos kites we do feel to adore to mag nify thy name for what thou hast done for us in our conspiracy and for thy assistance in the overthrow of the dominion of the Repusites in the province of Munic and we bless thy name that thou hast been pleased to withhold thy displeasure from us for the iniquities of our fathers but hath restored to thy people the con trol of the province and unto them the possession of the mag nificent temple built by the Repu sites for an inheritance We thank thee that thou didst so confuse and confound the Repusites and didst soften the rage of the Ethiopians and check the vehemence of the Sodomite that we were able to them with shekels and vine to sell u their QI cs for thy servants in the cqnspiracy Now give us grace and influence that we may be able to retain all the proselytes that we have gained from the Repusi s and may they pontin ueto Avbrsuip kcaBt their lots with thy people Give us the pro vince of Munic for an everlasting possession that we may feast upon the fatness of the land and be made happy and to rejoice as did our fathers and thy servants of old Lgad us and direct to victory in all our undertakings and we will forever praise thy name Amen At the conclusion of the prayer of Daniel Galleo one whp understand gtri the laws that govern the land of Kent and the sanhedrim arose and beckoned unto them and said Men and brethren we have a great victory in the overthrow pf the Repusite rule we cannot but rejoice over it Verily verily I say qqto you that we have achieved this victory at great hazard and peril to ourselves for it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the law which we have in this conspiracy so often willfully and without provocation or excuse violated in divers of times and places Now It behooves us to remain very quiet and to make no public demonstration of joy or about our victory over the Repusites for should they plow with our heifer and find out our riddle we might have to suffer the pnalties of the law and have to forfeit our official rule over the province and some of us would be deprived of the right to cast lots for if the law were strictly enforced against our Ruel Kato Rahab Judas and Ramases would not be eligible to rule over the province for the law land of Kent and of the 3jhedrim concerning pasting qf is very plain rigid and forcible and if we were presses we could not lodge the demands and the for we have said and done things that would be dangerous to he made public and not lawful to tell Hence we advise that every Demoskite in the province be warn ed to keep quiet and to be uncon cerned about our victory and treat the RepusUes with generosity and with kindness and let all the priests spies pages butlers ad all those that have been engaged in waging the conspiracy go out from hero and to Pay but little about our tor you all know the little ex cuse with which Didymus deprived Titus of his position as lawmaker Cu at Graham The happy pair have best wishes from everyone Salads Whenever any dietary or other customs become universally preva lent it is safe to say that it is esscn tially useful The eating of raw vegetables or salads is one of these dietary habits founded upon the demand of the organism for certain stilts and acids which cannot be had at least not in sufficient amount from meat or the leguminous vegetables which must be cooked to be palatable Not only must universal customs nal but even lath frequently contain a grain of sense Thus the raw food fad although an absurd and an un appetizing thing when carried to the extreme of eating nothing which has been touched with fire is neverthe less founded upon the need which the organism feels for the salts and other principles which are contained in raw vegetables In the Acetaria or a Discourse of Sallets John Evelyn said hundred years ago Raw sallets and herbs have experimentally beer found to be the most sovereign diet in that epidermical with us and al most universal contagion the scor bute to which we of this nation and most other Islanders are obnoxious Although we are fortunately riot so obnoxious to scurvy today as were the Islanders of that time nevertheless a too exclusively meat and leguminous diet affects the nutri tive functions injuriously and prompts thq appetite to caJ farUi raw juice of fruits and salads to cor rct the fault Salads must however be most carefully prepared since being tak en raw they may introduce into the system not only the germ of typhoid fever but also the eggs of intestinal worms This thing ot which they are made should always be washed in running water and such of them as will not be injured in the process should be dipped into boil With the observance of this simple rule of cleanliness one may with eat moderately of salads or even let such serve as the entire luncheon It interesting however to quote again from Evelyn who says Let none imagine that whilst we justify our present subject through all the topics of panegyric we would in favor of the Sallei dressd with all its pomp and advantage turn man kind to grass again which were un gratefully to neglect west works his Jrind and bandies his crops it Is clear that he has several advan tages over his fellow farmer in the central and eastern states who relics upon ralnfni alone for the moisture necessary fur the growth and maturi ty of his crops Perhaps lIs chief and most important advantage Is that he is able to put water on his land nt will being free from tbe distraction and annoyance of henry rains during tho time of seeding and cultivation which would soak the ground delay cultivation and sire the weeds a big boost Coupled with a perfect regu latlon of the moisture which is al lowed to go upon the land is another favorable large number of clear bright days during the vest months which make possible the perfect ripening of the grain nnd bay and the harvesting and securing of it under most favorable conditions who has tried to cure hay between showers in June In the central and eastern states will appreciate this point Lastly the Irrigated lands have this vital point In their favor that little If any of the original fertility of the soil has been soaked out and washed out by repented and heavy rains This accounts for the remark able productivity of western soils which have waited centuries for the magic touch of water to make them the garden spots of earth In view of tuGse points nnd others which might be mentioned It is not surprising that many a farmer looks long nothing which can be lone for the young orchard which will tend to make it more thrifty nnd vigorous than to give It carefnl cultivation for the first few years after It is set This result may be brought about to ad vantage by growing some crop be tween the rows of trees such as straw berries potatoes popcorn or better NHtlll beans The frequent cultivation siren keep the ground loose and moist and keep the young trees from suffer ing should a hot and dry spell come In middle or late summer It tie orchard is nn4 Id one and blue grass nnd weeds have gradually worked their way In n good plan
