practices are not Inaugurated By gradually plowing deeper whlli Gradually filling tho eoil with vese table matter through the use of ant mat manure and the turnns umler of soiMmprovIng crops some of the washing could be prevented Of course terracing and hlllsldo ditch lug should bo done Ina largo number of cases so as to carry the water down fcrncjualljr and keep It from rushing down anti carryng the soil with IL Rut oven If all these things were they are not one time In twenty when they are needed many hills would still be worth more In pasture than In cultivated crow Cultivated might do well for n shott hne but tho heavy southern rains would gradually carry off the host part of the land till only th oH kind of bottom land remained Then very poor cultivated crops n ul J be got and the pasture that could be got from tho land in that court tlon would bo so Imor that a cow would travel over so much lam trying to get enough to eat that sht could not give much milk Southern farming la sintering from many drawbacks but from none mor than from poor pastures section that would grow luxuriant pasturage a largo part of the year if the rlgln pasture grasses were usod that I grasses so you can have fine fresh cabbage hard headed early next spring Thcr Is no secret about putting them otu Only leave the land rich and well prepared Have your rows for early varieties two and n hate feet apart Drill In the about 803 pound per acre of a mixture of 8 per cent phosphoric acid and S per cent potash no ammonia Bed with two furrows and set the plants from 15 to IS inches apart on tho north stile of the ridge near the bottom of the nay twothirds of the way down the vidge The rdre protects the plants from the cold winds and being on the north side they do not start to grow ing so readily during warm days to be killed by the later cold Then there are onion sets that can bo put out now and toward the last of the month niirrmvfnt jieas can be sowed There are ninny things tim can be done In the garden this that will add to the comfort of the next spring Cause cf fJUk Fever One of the most general causes milk fever which attacks cows from G to 43 hours after calving is the carelessness of many farmers dairymen in milking the cowp udder out clean just before or after calving which allows the glands of the udder to flop together which Irritates glands and causqs the fever Nature places an abundance of milk In the udder at this time for the above pose and only a part of it should bo drawn at once repeating it frequent ly as the milk serves to keep the udder distended and full nd acts like the air treatment does Practical Farmer This is the month to plan for next years crops unless you have already done EO In your planning be sure provide for enough feed for homo con sumption before laying out for the cotton and other socalled money crops With corn close to 90 cents and oats nsnrly 70 cents per bushel and hay In proportion it is time for the southern farmers to grow these crops In abundance If your oats are likely to bo a failure or if the Acreage was not largo enough pro Ifijo land now to sow spring oats f I Yam t change o a doneand ncros Inca e soo on
