predictions and imprac tical theories of irrational reformers to the wholesome and sensible of Dr Washington Gladden the wellknown sociologist preacher Dr Gladden is not the less in his attack on social vices and evils because practical As an as sailant of gambling whether in the drawingrooms of the upper classes or in the resorts of the professional gambler Dr Gladden yields the palm to no quite remote from practi cal life As in the case of political economy there is hardly an affir mation of the social scientist which cannot reasonably be challenged not yet earned the a science The
