Monday Greene who is a son of Mr L B Greene is one of Montgomery countys most promising young men and it is predicted that he will make one of the best Clerks in the countys his p tory Mr Greene has appointed Mr Lindsay R Douglas eldest son of Mr T J Douglas of the Levee his chief deputy Mr Douglas who has been residing in Lexington for several months past is a competent and worthy young man offered and sold but stock trading was mostly in plug horses There is a movement on foot to take another vote on the question of granting license to sell whiskey in Bath county Those favoring this movement claim that prohibi tion which was voted by an over whelming majority six years ago is not only a failure but that it is draining Bath county of money which goes to Vit Sterling At Sharpsburg on election day Ed Jplmson a negro about 60 years oldwasj stabbed in the back by Frank Johnston also a negro jljT years old Ed Johnson lingered until Saturday when he died of his wound Frank Johnson ease has been rapid State labor atories devoted to the manufacture of preventive serum have been sadly overtaxed by the demands on them Results multiply to show that these serums injected before disease has fastened itsel on the herd will afford approxi mately 90 per cent protection In some instances the disease i checked by the injection of th vaccinating material but the ho cholera serum is offered as a pre ventive not cure The stitch iin time therefore is necessary When swine plague invades a neighborhood no herd is safe Some are lucky and escape and suchescapes lull fanners into fan cied security from which they ar ofttimes rudelIInd disastrously awakened It is a mutter of lucl largely unless preventive step are taken Undoubtedly disinfec tion helps greatly to ward off dis ease Any germdestroyer is val uable on a farm surrounded by cholera but this protection is no positive as the disease is one o the most insidious in its introduc tionThe makers ofcholera cures and preventives are busy It neednot be restated that science knows no cure for hog cholera Many a cure has been put on the market and each one of them has had some weight of successfulI experience back of it Many a man has really believed he has discovered a sure cure but sooner or later he learns his mistake Several makers of cholera reme dies are so certain of their eflicacy that they guarantee them InI such cases the farmer is not out anything if the disease is not stopped He should have a deli nite ironclad legal contract with every such advertiser before he pays his money for the remedy Only a few states supply serum and the demand is far greater than tho supply so the farmer turns to the advertised remedies as a for lorn hope They are chiefly germ killers and tonics and are clearly indicted in the treatment and prevention of the disease but iin view of all experience with swine plague remedies we advise farm ers to get binding guarantees or insurance when they buy the cures
