Last Saturday Afternoon at His Home on E Main Street i Last Saturday afternoon Wm I Halley Wilkerson aged 74 died I at his home on East Main street Jof congestion of the brain Mr I fWillcerson was one of the oldest I and most respected citizens of our I city He was born Dec 13 1836 I in this county and lived here all i his life When a young man he i studied law but not liking the 2 t profession he never practiced He was employed for two years as a clerk for Wells Lloyd in the dry goods business Was ap pointed and served as postmaster1 L of Mt Sterling from 1886 to 1889 J He also served as sheriff of Mont ti gomery county many years ago At the time of his death he was engaged injthe grocery business I Mr Wilkerson married Miss Emily F Keas Oct 19 1865 at Eminence Ky He is survived x by his wife and seven children four daughters and three sons Mrs VD M Reed Misses Bettie B Emma F Ray K J Will Joe Wells and N A Wilkerson all of this city and one brother and three sisters J H Vilkerson of Valley Station Mrs Anna Hisle of Lexington Mrs Alice Butler 1 1of Fayette county and Lizzie Boone of Bedford Ind Mr Wilkerson had been a member of the Methodist church for more than forty years He was a man every one respected and liked of a cheerful disposi tion Jalways inclined to look on the bright side of life with a kind 1word and gentle greeting for ev er one His was a most exemplary live this city Monday the team of mules driven by J W Motley of Spencer this county became fright ened and ran away throwing the driver from the wagon mashing his arm up considerably and in juring his leg meeting in Lexington last weekseveral new features were of interest to growers were dis cussed In the reports from all the counties in regard to the grow ing crop it is disclosed that under the most favorable conditions there will not be more than 50 per cent of a crop grown this year Statements of the financial con dition of the Burley Society and Burley Co show both in good shapeThe District Board recommended a new feature in poolinga ten year pool by landowners with the tenant to do as he wishes with his half of crop pool it or not as he pleases the land owner to take onehalf of his part of crop in stock in a plant to manufacture tobacco This will settle the to bacco trouble as sooner or later the grower will have to go in the market with iris tobacco in shape to reap some of the profit the math ufactured goods bring if he expects to get what his raw leaf is worth The new pool will close January 1 1912 and is declared a pool when there are two sijrners It is needless to say that there will be two signers and the manufacturing plant is a certainty We are informed that several men of wealth are ready to back the new company for any amount of money needed The plans of the new company are not yet matured but it will be pushedand the new company will soon be ready for business Blue Grass Fair The Blue Grass Fair held at Lexington last week was the larg est and best attended fair ever held in Lexington Large crowds from everywhero were present the entire week The fair board is to be congratulated on securing the services of such a live wire as Mr Shouse for secretary as ho left nothing undone to make the visitors have a splendid time as wellas get the full worth of their money The races weregood the show rings fine the aeroplane flights could not have been ex celled the floral hall was beautiful the music grand in fact ev erything was all right Narrow Escape During the electrical storm here last Saturday at noon lightning struck a large tree inlhe yardof C B Fixer ancl set it on tire Sev eral large branches of the tree hang direct iiover Mr Fixers house and had it not been for the hardand timely work of neigh bors Mr Fixers house would have
