expound the reduced cost of living Tables of comparative cost on staple articles of food are printed and the con sumer is assured that if prices are not materially less than a year ago the retailer is to blame Whole sale market quotations on meats cereals poultry butter and eggs take a considerably lower run than last year while flour is down 1 a barrel Coffee and fruits still re main high It is refreshing to find the public as represented by the writer for the daily papers concluding that natural causes have brought about the decline and really recognizing the existence of the law of supply and demand a law which u good many people forgot for a time in their zeal to saddle the cause of high prices on to combinations and trusts and wholly artificial causes Agreement now seems rather general that elevated values mu terially lessened consumption a fact which has been repeatedly pointed out in deploring the abnor= mal prices of meats which prevail ed for a time The meateating habit is one easily cured and it has been discussed with serious apprehension the prospect that high prices would bring meat sub stitutes into use to such an extent that corsumption would be materi ally curtailed That unfortunat- but foreseen condition now affects the industry Although prices have dropped considerably the demand has also slackened and out lets appear not to have the absorb ing power of past years Abnormally high prices of agri cultural products benefit temporar fly those who happen to have the goods to unload on such markets but they are ultimately damaging in that they tend to disturb ser iously the relationship between normal supplIlnd demand and int uniformly profitable production fur Sale Double Standard Polled Durham Bulls which are hornless Shorthorns Shropshire Bucks
