Children must not be corrected. Their minds must be diverted. who are Violators of the law, merely grown-u- p children who are without respect for authority, or fr.r the risrhts of others, must not . 0be punished. They must be given treatment somewhat like that promised to Curlylocks in the poem, and turned loose after a brief period of uplifting association with exponents of the theory that criminals are not criminals, but merely worthy persons temporarily in error. Now comes a schoolteacher to denounce the term-en- d examinations as tending to dishearten and disgust pupils, and as having no value in determining their relative fitness for advancement to higher classes. In a paper read before the Cen tral Association of Science and Mathematics Teachers, an Illinois instructress holding a chair at a high school in Kenilworth, abol-ishe- s with a breath the standing ol examinations. They are useless, worse than useless. They are in supplying the motive prmer. Not only is Kentucky to have State and Federal aid in the: building of her roads, but under the Huff law county seat plan every county is to receive equal consideration. The money spent for roads is no longer to be spent haphazard. The standard of road construction, of whatever mater ial, is to be fixed. The provision for maintenance is to be uniform. Not until this standard and provision have been complied with is State and Federal aid to be extended. Kentucky has at last substituted action for words in the building of good roads. In signing these measures the Governor has done Kentucky a service tnat more than evens the score between them. But the credit is not wholly the Governor's. But for Claude B. bill Terrell the McDyer-Boswort- h would never have passed the House. The fight made for it in the Senate by Lieut. Gov. McDer-mo- tt Huffaker preand Senator vented its defeat in that body. In both houses the Louisville delegation stood as a man by their ante election pledge to work and vote for good roads. To Louisville, op which the tax burden falls heaviest the section of the State that are without good roads owe not the least of their debt of gratitude for legislation that will transform into eighty-nin- e eightynine pauper prosperous counties: Louis ville Times. An adjustment of the insurance condition in Kentucky, although Ruby Laffoon has made certain promises, as to what the State Ratiug Board will do, seems very uncertain. The welfare of the business interests of the State demand an immediate adjustment and if the Governor, the Auditor and Ruby Laffoon are not willing to surrender what they had hoped to gain in a Political way for the welfare of the business interests of the entire State, it seems to us that it is time lor tne Deople to make a demand that will bring the desired result. The people are greater ihan that bunch of political grafters, who aretrjirg to hold on to this infamous law. TO THE BAPTIST OF ROCKCASTLE COUNTY Sunday April 12th has been set apart as Missionary day in all the Baptist Sunday Schools of the South land and as representative of the Mission Board of Rockcastle Association I am appealing to the Twenty Seven Hundred Baptist of our Association to makea special effort to make as liberal an offering as thev possibly caiw on that day. We also invite our friends who are not members of our churches or Sunday schools to aid in this noble work -- Statistics show that more than one million foreigners come to our coun-ti- y every year, we are trying to give every one of them a copy of The Bible printed in their own language, besides, the opening of the Panama Canal necesitates our sending Missionaries to that field unless our brethren do heroic work we will not be able to meet all of our obligations some of our good sisters have promised to give all the eggs laid by their hens on Sundays during the month of April.
