Vernon Signal: Being again in your town, and feeling like Ponce de Leon, an old man of fading fame and failing my mind reverts back four decades, when I, as a beardless boy came here to make a speech for Breckinridge and Lane in i860. I remember in one of my lofty outbursts of eloquence, a Mnan in the audience exclaimed, "that is a d n lie!" I said, I only speak of the record to vindicate the truth of history, then he said, "History Up to that time, I had lies!" never had a fight, but since that time, I have whipped more than half ri dozen men. for far less insult. I then did not know that I would fight. Rockcastle county has produced many great men, and her citizens are the most loyal and devoted to their government, 1 ever saw. John Mnore and Bill Moore were two of Rockcastle's great men and lawyers. John Moore knew the Scripture like Jasper Brown spelling knows the old ''Blue-bacb:ok " Bill Moore was a great wit, and his dry humor was inimitable.
