I gave him my grip and wended my way over to the hotel which was furnished to a queens taste After partaking of a sumptious repast I went out for a drive over the town which had now grown to be a good sized city and soon found myself gazeing at some ot the most magnificent buildings I ever saw the city had been rebuilt the old houses had been re placed by stone and brick End Mt Vernon wasa city of twenty five thousand inhabitants witn streetcars electric lights waterworks ice plants machine shops whole sale houses and manufactories of various descriptions- It was an uptodate city in ev ery respect and tlie people wore an air of thrift and independence worn only by those who enjoy ihe pleasures of this life I was bewil dered and lost in amazement and could hardly beleve my own eyes to think that Mt Vernon had grown from a village to a city iu the short space of ten years After spending the night at the Hotel de Miller IJ then started to visit my old home behold the roads were
