only regret is that agitation had not been begun sooner so that instead of two imaginary i pikes through the county we could have them in reality and be deriving a present benefit from There is every reason in tithe world why ewe should have tunipikes and not one to our inincl v1ywe seould not Of cpureitis Argued that we are dot able and that it would bankrupt the county but we see nowreason Why such a state of affairs should be anticipated Have not other coun ties no wealthier than our own at the time they built their pikes completed many miles paid for it and to day would not be placed in their former condition for ten times what they expended By issuing bonds for thirty years as suggested by you we would hardly note the difference in our taxes and have the benefit of good roads all the wuile to saY nothing of the work it would furnish so many ot our people right here at home The money will not leave the county but will be expended among us the principal part of it to those who made thei living by days work while those who pay the most taxes will pay the most toward the pike and in return will derive more benefit therefrom Therefore it will prove a blessing to all of us and we hope the people will take the matter under consid eration and think once twice or even three times before condemn ing it Almost all of us are too prone to condemn before hearing all the evidence and the argue ment On both sides of the case It is no doubt a fact that a majority ot againstIpurpose we believe after proper consideration of the subject it will be quite different Every one knows that it is almost if not altogether an impossibility to ever have good roads here in winter time unless they are macad amized Judge Williams has done every thing in his power to have good roads and in fact has greatly improved them but there is no use tryingt to perform miracles now for that day is past It isnt worth while to go into details and show every reason why we should have pikes no body doubts or disputes that we would be better off in a thousand different ways the only question is are we able to do it which after careful consideration We are satisfied will be answered in the
