Central R R and the Eastern part of the county After leaving the Knoxville Division of the L Nat the Sinks of Roundston where the Kentucky Central branches off for Cincinnati the first station we find is Withers or Mullins Station There we had two storesone own ed by Johnson and Dooley and the other by James Cummins both doing a nice business There is found also the Roundstone Quarry Co which puts out from six to ten car loads of ballast every day Passing on up the line the next we come to is Orlando which bids fair to be one of Rockcastles best towns in the near future from hi re will start the new R R route for which has already been surveyed throl1g to the jackson line and on accountof the great amount of coal and timber and other resorces it is bound to grow considerally Orlando already has two firms Geo T Johnson and J A Wood Co which can com pare favorably with any iii the county The former deals exten sively in lumbert staves and tan balk and consequently does an immense business The next is Langford Here is found one of the greatest enterprises in the countythe Rockcastle Stone Company which employes from twenty to thirty men and saws from eight to ten car loads of stone each day The stone from this quarry is growing very much in demand It is shipped even as far as New York Boston and many other Eastern cities to be used there for building purposes With that hustling and allround businessman David Carter as boss it means lots of work and success with the quarry After leaving Langford we go only a short dist ance until we come to the thriving town of Wildie W H Jones Jones Fish and Wood Hayes compose the three business firms of the town Each firm carries a large stock of goods and all are do ing ad exceedingly good business As much lumber and as many or more staves and crossties r are i shipped from Wildie than any other town in the county On onlya short distance from Wildie can be found some of our best farms andwealthiest farmers Wildie has one professional man Dr R H Lewis who would be an honor to any town Wood French compose the firm at Rbundstone and they too can be classed with the successful ones Passing only a short distance up the line from Rouudstone we comet the last station along the K C this is Conway while it is rather small so far as population goes but n the amount of business done it ranks much higher There are two this high honor Mr Cress was for several years a school teacher of this coun ty and later editor of the SIGNAL About eight years ago he left this county and went to Monticello where he began the practice of the legal profession and at the last election in his county he was elect edcounty attorney by a handsome majority The wreck at Calvary last week in which three Rockcastle men lost their lives and four others consider ably mashed up was as one of the railroad officials expressed it one of the most complete wrecks which ever occured on the I and N system The wreck caused a gl eat loss to Rockqastle In the death of W C Cable George Mullins and James Houston we lost three of our best men and using the expression of one of the crew with whoiii they worked Three of the most moral men on the entire line Neither of the three men ever us ed whisky in any form never swore an oathwe speak of late years dur ind the time which we have known them and never used tobacco ta keri all
