started to run when Williams pulled his pistol and tired thrte shots at her One of the bullets took effect entering her back at the right aide passing through her liver and out her breast The wounded girl died the next afternoon Thekilliug caused tbe greatest excitement in the village where so many inyst- - ions crimes have been committed and so few ferreted out and the criminals captured Immediately after tbe killing Williams disappeared - At two oclock on tbe same afternoon a warrant for his ar rest was issued and Deputy Sheriff W W Mitchell Constable Joe Williams ana Officer George Hill started in pursuit of tbe murderer He was traced to Lloyd Asbnrsts farm near this city where tbey arrested him just one hour after the warrant was issued He was in a cornfield when apprehended by He was shaved by Forrest Lang The doomed man wore a plain black suit furnished James The coffin was by Parker by undertaker G W Davis furnished At four oclock yesterday afternoon Williams was visited by Rev Webster and four deacons of the colored Baptist Church who prayed and sang with him Williams said that he had made his peace with his Maker and that he was ready to die To a News reporter Williams said that he knew the hour and would not take any stimulent to nerve himself for the terrible ordeal During the religious services a noisy crowd laughed and joked elow the window of the death cell and called to the prisoner to get a glimpse of him To a News reporter Williams said that he did not want hie mother who lives in Mississippi to know how be died His dream her is alive but does not liye in Paris doing and he said he had some cows to sell and we would make about 75 or 80 I told him I never did anything like that but be insisted on me going with him and I finally went with him and we took them te Georgetown and sold them for 45 and went to Lexington where we divided the money If it hadnt been for him I wouldnt be where I am to day in the Paris jail condemned to be hung I bought my gun in Lexington I killed Josie Tillman but I didnt go to do it It wasnt my intention to kill her but to scare her and make her come back to me I do not believe I would have shot her if she had stood still but she wheeled to run and that was the shot The cause of her getting evidence that was given against me I There could not blame the jurymen of perjuring done on the stand was lots if it was only known There was a great deal of malace against me in my case and at that they wont make any great fortune for it All I can say is that I hope them all well in the fntre The reason a great many swore to lies theywere afraid of Capt Tillman as and he is a great bully in Claytville thev thought he would fix it with them I think I deserve to be punished but not so severe I only wish that Mr Bradley will change my sentence to life in the penitentiary and then I will have a chance to change my ways and get repentance as I have been a sinner in my past days I must say that Mrs Ashbrook and her tnrnkev Mr A M Kiser have treated me like I was white and I appreciate it My favorite among the prisoners is Mr Forest Lang He has treated me like a brother There wasnt anything be had that was too good for me As tbe saying tjoes he certainly and that aint no was good to me ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ By kind permission of tbe Paris Democrat ¬ ¬ ¬ ¬ officers A f ter bei n g arrested tbe m u r derers Is composed of two thin strips of copper which were capped or hollow ed and then brought together edge to edge with the rounded sides out thus giving strength as well as lightness The aluminium clock pointers are made just in the same way as the copper ones but they possess the merit of being twice as light aud are far easier to balance It isnt unusual on large clocks to see projecting from the base of the long pointer and in line with it a rod with a ball at the end this rod be ing perhaps a third as long as the big pointer This rod and ball act as a counterweight for the big pointer which without a counterweight would in its movement around the dial bear unevenly upon the arbor or shaft which carries it On great clocks and often on big timepieces indoors this counterpoise is placed inside the dial out of sight on the arbor The heavier the pointer the greater the weight required in the counterpoise the greater the weight the more friction on the arbor and the more friction the
