nice advance on their investment but theyare willing to surrender the grounds to help the fair project along A more propitious time or place could not be selected for establishing a fair because manv of the fairs u this section of the State have passed out of existence and there is a strong popular demand for this class of amusement Turnpikes are free now and the attendance would naturally be much larger as a consequence The money formerly paid for toll could be used for the small admission fee to the grounds There are many other good and sensible reasons why every one should do what they can to help start the fair again The merchants well know that the fair as formerly hdd in the first of September was always a great stimulant to trade in all branches and at a time when trade would otherwise be slow Many dollars would flow to the coffers of the retail trades if the fair is revived that are now boarded or spent elsewhere as there is no special inducement for strangers to come here or to spend their money in pursuit of happi ness at the mild dissipations afforded at a county fair The News believes the whole amount will soon be subscribed and believes that it can be made a
