thorough examination of Champion Corbett made by Dr A P Brian the well known physician issued the cer-¬ tificate which follows For several days past Fitzsimmons has been insisting that Corbett should be subjected to a thorough examina ¬ tion as to his physical condition This should be a complete answer James Corbett is the most perfect specimen of physical manhood in my opinion in the world to day I saw him in his fight with Sharkey and must say that his condition is absolutely different at the present time from what it was on that occasion After a thorough examination I have failed to find a single flaw in his anatomy The chest is expansive to a remarkable degree showing- the elasticity and firmness of the muscles The capacity of the lungs indicates great endurance and especially when room and fell Miss Ida ran into the room where she saw her brother flourishing a pis tol He struck her over the right eye with the weapon cutting a long gash and knocking her back into the hall As she fell he fired at her but the bul let flew wild Marrs slammed the door to Neighbors rushed in and forced the doorj when a horrible sight met their gaze Lying on the floor with his feet under the bed and his head toward the door that opened into an adjoining room was Marrs in a sea of blood His throat was cut from ear to ear both jugular veins and the windpipe being severed The head was barely hanging to the body Near his left hand was a large razor covered with blood Gii the floor was a large revolver with four empty chambers On the bed was the boy sat- urated with blood He had a bullet in the center of his forehead and his throat was cut from ear to ear Three pieces of flesh were cut from his fight cheek Miss Ida Marrs wounds are not dangerous but she was badly prostrated from the shock Mrs Marrs is in a precarious condition from nervous prostration About 10 years ago John Marrs showed signs of insanity and was incarcerated in the Eastern Ken tucky lunatic asylum He was dis charged as cured after six months and returned to business in the best of health and spirits and made money rapidly for several years On account of depression in business his affairs of late have not been in a prosperous condition He was taken violently ill about a month ago with a peculiar headache and remained at home three weeks His friend Moses Kaufman called to see him several times this week and saw evidences of mental trouble and had intended to take him to a doctor Saturday and have him treated Marrs comes from one of Kentuckys oidest and best families His father John Marrs was for many years treasurer of the city of Lexington The family has always stood high in business and social circles Lexington Ky Feb 15 The funeral of John W Marrs and his boy John jr took place at the Central Christian church at 3 oclock Sunday afternoon The church was packed with fully 1500 people As many more were on the outside of the build ing blocking the streets for squares Father and son were buried the general examination I tested the various reflexes with the object of determining the condition of his nervous system The result was that I found the nervous system equally as good as the muscu lar dyspeptic preachers and the gibes of the press Mrs Bradley Martin gave her 300000 bal masque Wednesday night at the Waldorf and it has passed into history as the most splendid social event ever seen in America The ball was beauti ¬ ful beyond the most fanciful dream of magnificence beauty and picturesque ness Fully eight hundred guests most ly garbed in costumes of the sixteenth seventeenth and eighteenth centuries century present nineteenth were clothes being tabooed More than two hundred pseudo American queens far eclipsed the ancient queens of France and England in beauty grace splendid gowns and crowns and dazzling tiaras The floral decorations of the ball room the parlors balls and dressing rooms were very elaborate costing about 6000 The mirrors and chandeliers were decked with roses ivy orchids and smilax arid easy chairs and sofas were made into secludedflirtation bowersby the liberal use of flowers while portierres of pink roses also curtained off cozy nooks in the ball room On each of 125 tables in the dining room was a huge vase of pink roses The rooms and cor¬ ridors were as beautiful as a peep into fairyland As the guests entered the ball room they handed a card bearing their name and the character they represented to a herald who announced it to the assem- ¬ bly Then the guest proceeded to the dias and paid his or her respects to Mr and Mrs Bradley Martin Mr Martins costume was fashioned after the time of Louis XI and was of pink satin embroidered with gold and trimmed with point lace He wore a diamond brooch diamond rings and a jeweled rapier Mrs Bradley Martin opened the ball by dancing the quadrille dlionneur with John Jacob Astor who represented Henry of Navarre Mrs Martins costume was Elizebethan in design and was sapphire blue velvet with a long train of black velvet The skirt was caught up on one side to show and old rose petticoat trimmed with silver lace Around her neck she wore a collar of seven rows of diamonds and rubies to gether with three ropes of the same jewels and her head was surmounted by the celebrated tiara The minuet began at midnight led by Worthington Whitehouse and Mrs Orme Wilson and was followed by sev- ¬ eral
