filling his vacancy Mr McRoberts Is a lawyer eminently qualified for the judgeship Ever those who opposed him cannot truth fully deny this Furthermore he lithe recognized leader of the temperance forces in this section a men that not only preaches temperance but whose dally life proclaims his devotion to that cause We Js also Ii lifelong republicanbelonging to l that almost extinct class who are republicans trod principle and not from a desire to merely satisfy an ins satiable hanger for office Yet Cox refused to appoint such a man to the judicial vacancy What was the rea son for this refusal I Cox told Auditor Frank James that he objected to Mc Roberts because he declined to follow the republican members of the legis lature to London when Taylor at tempted to adjourn the legislature to that place McRoberta being then a member of the legislature If this be true the Lieutenant Governors conception of what conutltutes fitness for the judiciary Is this That a judge must
