Speaks Traction EngineHis Hard Luck The Iron bridge on the Somerset pike was totally destroyed Thursday after when the large traction englnf of tnoon Speaks of Highland crashed through It A wagon loaded with a saw- millv which was being hauled to Morgan i Beazleyi placo to do some cutting fol lowed the big engine Into the St Aiaph s making a wreck of fearful Mr Speaks who was conluslonI oftlI I at the left of tha pike Into a clump of bushes when he saw the bridge 1thom to give fcay beneath the heavy load Dave Durton who wan on the en Bine with him went down on the right side Arthur Oaks another helper made a wild leap and landed safely but all had very narrow escapes Others oft the crew were In a tender wagon which t was held back at the brink by the protruding wreckage of the saw mill Tho t big engine In going down turned turtlo- I completelyThe happened about four o clock In the afternoon Tho bridge gave way under Its ponderous burden with a roar that could bo heard all over town Several had been watching the big en Kino slide down the steep Somerset pike hill and saw the accident happen W C Baugn who drovo tho timber wagon ahead of tho engine had just crossed the bridge and standing on tho north aide saw the whole thing go down Mr Speaks engine is said to bo the largest of the kind In this section It is i a 25horso power engine and is said to weigh about eight or ten tons The J Somerset pike bridge has seen over 15 years hard service Some time ago Councilman M D Elmore made an ef fort to have a heavier and wider bridge replace the destroyed one but it came to naught The Council will now have to take sumo action and will probably act at once for the continued rains have swelled the creek and really made ford lag somewhat dangerous- Mr Speaks who is a very clever gentleman has the sympathy of every one in his hard luck Things seem to be breaking rather badly for him lately It baa only been a few days since a horse his wife drove to town became frightened at a train on Logan avenue and ran away smashing the buggy to splinters and now this traction engine which II said to have coat him 2000 last year is very badly damaged Harvey Helm Stirs of the society is requested Bank Robbers In Civil War Days Said to Have Buried Money Edward Flaig the Danville jeweler has solved tho mystery surrounding the discovery of a box containing several gold coins in DIx river near Kings Mill last week Mr FlaIg states that for years it has been known that several boxes of gpld and silver coin were buried in the vlcln ity of the old mill dam says the Advo cote Many attempts have been made to find tho treasure and In years gone by hundreds of fortune seekers have dug into the earth Mr Flaig says that prior to the Civil War this section of the state was infested with notorious bank robbers and that the bank at Nlcholasvillo was robbed Citizens pur sued the robbers into Dix river cliffs There trace was lost of them Some years later ono of the robbers on his death bed at Lexington said that he was a member of the gang and that on box of the money wee hid in tho Kings mill dam and that other boxes wore buried on the bank of tho river Many efforts have been made to locate the money since the confessed robber made the dying statement and that found by George Kelly is said to have been the first part of the rich treasure so far unearthed ITCH hustling young fellow Delicate Operation On Crab Orchard Patient Proves Decided Success Dr L F Jones and C H Robbins of Crab Orchard were here Thursday with Dr J G Carpenter Tho two medical then performed a delicate operation for tuberculosis of a bone upon Mr Robbins a few weeks ago and he is making a nice recovery the opera tion having been a success in every way Mr Robbins was one of the the best known farmers In this section died at his home near here Wednesday as a result of a paralytic stroke which he suffered Sunday MrBlank enshlp was 74 years of age and the weight of years was too heavy for him throw off this attack upon tired na tureMr Blankenship is survived by his wife and several children He was a faithful and earnest memberCof the repubIIcan citizenF Martin another respected citizen of tho same community passed away early in tho week of pneumonia He was 63 years old and Is survived by his wife and ten children Mr Martin was a consistent member of the Baptist church and a well known and pro gressive farmer He was buried here TuesdayIt becomes our sad duty to chron icle the death of Mrs Collier wife of Judge P D Collier which occurred at her home at 10 a m June 7 She had been in our midst only a few months having been married to Judge Collier last December Our acquaintance with her was limited yet we found her a re fined and most excellent Christian wo man calculated to wield an influence for good among all with whom she came in contact Her remains were taken to Millersburg Wednesday for burial ac companied by her husband and friends The family of
