pastors of the city occupied seats on the rostrum and all the physicians who could get away from patients were presentThe was announced to be held uuder the auspices of the pbyal sians and three instructive addresses were made by pro M M Phillips J G Carpenter and W B OBannon Rev D M Walker of the Christian church presided Rev J J Dickey of tho Methodist church read a Scripture paaaage and Rev John T Hoaklna of tho Baptist church offered prayer af tar which Dr Phillips read a splendid essay upon the great white plague and its causes Hq showed how it has been proven to be a curable disease and gave other reasons for encouragement to those who are waging such vigorous war upon It Dr Carpenter followed with an ads dress which held the undivided atten tion of every one Ho declared that Lincoln county ought to have a tuber culosis sanitarium and after opening the eyes of many in regard to that die ease drovo home some potent facts re garding the moral and physical side of thin city lie declared it was a shame the way the dudes and dudlncs of the present day violated tho laws of nature He decried tho fashion of low neck and short sleeves and other scan ty apparel in the coldest weather and asked how the physical or moral nature could be expected to grow when tho outer belnFwas freezing Ho asked what some present day belles and beaux would if do the judgment day were to come and catch them as they sometimes are He urged the op ening of homes to more fresh air for the better protection against tubercu losis and other diseases He said that pet dogs cats lizards and snakes should be kept out for they bring germs of all kinds Dr ODannon made nn eminently practical and interesting talk declaring that tho body must bo protected furth er by care in the diet Ho pointed out the fallacy that much meat is necessa ry for endurance and said that a more vegetarian diet has proven much tho better Dr OBannon argued against the indiscriminate kissing of babies I and gave many other points which proved of much value to all Another meeting is already being planned here at which typhoid fever e ed All of the dailies and many of the progressive country papers are now
