On the other hand his republican opponent ran as a friend of the bill and was defeated. Tho Interior Journal does not believe that the temperance people of Lincoln county were deceived in the attitude of Senator Hubble. He declares that he nromised no one that he would support the Countv Unit bill, as he considers that high licensed saloons with complete police regulations are much preferable to blind tigers. However widely the Interior Journal may differ with Senator Hubble as to what is the wisest and best policy toward the liquor traffic, it believes that he has maintained the one position upon which he has stood at this session both before and after election; and is not to be put in the class with those Senators who have openly and wilfully violated both written and spoken pledges to their constituents. bond issue beaten. The Arnett bill for a bond issue of $500,000 was twice defeated in tho Senate, but its friends think they may be able to get it through after all. While the Senate was defeating the bond issue, the House passed a bill for issual warrants, to help of interest-bearin- g the State out of its indebtedness. Relief from both sources may be necessary before the deficit can bo wiped out, however. Many of tho members of the Legislature are wondering whether they will be given any salary money on tho first of the month when the cither employes of the State are paid off. The Legislators feel that they are as much entitled to their money as other officials of the State, and there is going to be a howl if any discrimination is shown. Auditor James paid his clerks out of his own private bank account, so that they would not have to wait for ready funds, Bhould the public excheq uer bo exhausted before the "ghost" can "walk." Several Lincoln county farmers took much interest in tho meeting of the Stato Farmers' Instituto last week and tho election of a secretary to tho Stato Fair. S. T. Tho Institute got into the usual squabble over tho election, with tho result that the courts will be invoked to settlo the troubles.
