Tub Interior Journal is now the property of Mr. Shelton M. Saufley, known to many of our Lincoln county readers, on experienced newspaper man and a fine gentleman. E. C. Walton, who has been with tho paper 30 years and who for tho past 10 years has owned it, made the dale some weeks ago but it did not go into effect until this morning. Mr Walton will continue to run the paper until the first or middle of March, when tho new owner will move over from Frankfort and take charge. A SLICK SCHEME. more ways to kill a dog than by choking him to death with butter is a homely old saw which has been demonstrated anew by the association of circuit judges. There is a constitutional inhibition against the increase of an officer's salary during his term, but in order to get around it the judges laid their heads together and succeeded in evolving the plan to whip the devil around the stump to the tune of $1,200 a year apiece. They prepared a bill which requires them to report to the governor when they have several days of vacation between courts, and from them alone the governor is to appoint special judges. For this, whether they perform any extra work or not, they are to get $1,200 a year each in mileage, and as there are SO or 40 judicial districts, it will be seen that it is going to take a good bunch of money to pay the extra allowance, largely more than the $30,000 that Gov. Will- son has spent on special judges in the two years he has been the State's executive. The Senate has passed the bill and it is said the House will follow its lead. If it does, each judge will get a salary of $4,200 a year and while the services of some of them are cheap at double the price, there are circuit judges in the State that are hardly worth that many cents. That a majority of the judges should get more money is undeniable, but it looks a little bad when those who are elected to enforce the law should lay awake at night to find some way of violating the drastic principles df it. tho Whlto Houso this morning.
