everything froze up which is not usually the case even in this section It has not been extreme ly cold about eight below zero being as low as the thermometer has register ed but It has hovered around zero frequently during the month Been snowing about twice u week for the lust three weeks yet wo havent but about eight Inches of snow on n level Now to you people down in old Kentuck a solid month of winter In December imagine sounds like rather a hard prop osition but the works of nature are so arranged that it never causes anything to occur so bad but what It could be worse and very often there a consistent member of the Baptist church a great part of his life He lived a blameless life from youth It was my pleasure to min with those who knew all about him I never heard a censure against him concerning his religious or business life He married Miss Sallie Lovelace who died about 30 years ago in tho trl umphs of faith After his son George married he united with him in house keeping aud remained with him until his death His whole life was spent in Wayne county except two years and a few months He had been a farmer all his life and a prosperous one He has been a farmer all his life and a pros perous one lie was well pleased with the new home near McKinney where he ended his pilgrimage in this world The 11th of February next he would have been 90 years of age Ho often prayed that his last days might be his best days and that he might die in his right mind He often said that all he feared of death was its sting Though he did not presume to pray for a pain less death he appeared to pass away as peacefully as an infant going to sleep on its mothers breast Christmas night a little after 12 oclock ho told us ho was dying and about daylight he said distinctly Bless the Lord bless the name of the Lord and continued in a state of ecstacy for some time re peating these words of praise gazing upward with happy smiles He re mained in a conscious condition until 2 o clock Monday evening breathing regu larly until the I was with him during his last illness and never in my life did I witness such a peaceful death His life and death have been a blessing to all who know him So it
