Drug Store. c. decision. In Federal Court nt Maysville, Judge A. M. J. Cochran nppolnted R. M. Jackson, a banker and prominent coal operator, of London, receiver for the New Coal Company. Tho receiver is to qualify within ten days and his bond was fixed at $25,000. The city of Hopkinsvillc will receive a gift of land for two parks, $30,000 for landscape work thereon, and Grace Episcopal church $50,000 for the poor of that city, under the will of John C. Latham. Tho Latham family homestead in Hopklnsville is to be converted into "Virginia Park." Acting Gov. Cox granted a pardon to Frank Ward, of Laurel county, who has served four years of a sen tence for manslaughter. Ward, with li!o bi oilier, and a man named Llttsell, were charged with killing a man named Golf in n fUht at Pittsburg. Tho other men were acquitted. Elvert W. Shirk, president of the First National Hank, of Tipton, Ind., was arrested in Chicago and charged with misapplying $24,252 of the bank's funds. Mr, Shirk said his arrest was due to a clerical error made by Noah It. Marker, and that he merely withdrew money belonging to him. Ten men wero killed and Ave seri ously injured by an explosion on the Florida East Coast railway, near Key West, Fla. One of the workmen carelessly threw a lighted cigarette into a box of fuses which connected with a blast of 700 pounds of dynamite, which caused tho dreadful accident. Tho jury in the case of Urecie and Dickcrson, charged with conspiracy to defraud tho defunct First National Hank of Ashcville, N. C, returned a verdict of guilty against both defendants. They wero sentenced to two years each in the Federal prison at Atlanta and to pay a flno of $2,500 each. President E. L. Davenport, of tho National Tobacco Growers' Association, a branch of tho American Society of Equity, has called a meeting of tho Hurley tobaccojsrowers nnd tho tobacco planters of other counties to meet in Elizabothtown Sept. 4 to form a district union and take quick action on the 1909 pool. Youtsey is Rettlnj; no more, If not less than half ho deserves for his participation in the assassination of Gov. Goabcl, few will Katnsay. But his fate is n horrible one, worse even than death, which ho only cscap ed by feigning insanity and "throwing fits." Imagine an aspiring young stenographer with n bright future, a love ly young wife and everything to llvo for. Forgetting all these happy sur roundings and working himself into the belief that he was ruined if the offices were taken from him and his friends, he joined the conspiracy to assassinate the man who was proceeding in a legal manner to protect his rights. The foul deed was consummated, Gocbel was shot down like a dog, Youtaey was captured with others of the conspirators and after a sensational trial, in which he played the part of a sick lunatic, was given a lifo sentence. The republican orators and newspapers howled in unison against Judge Cantrill for his heartlcssness In forcing a man In such a condition to trial and bellowed loud and long over Youtsey's innocence. Afterwards Youtsey confessed that he was shamming and gave convincing testimony against Taylor, Powers and others. Then the aforesaid orators and newspapers turned against him and his former friends became his bitterest enemies and claimed that he and he alono hatched the plan to kill Goebel and carried it into effect himself. Having lost every friend on earth except his faithful wife, he still had the comfort of knowing that he had that one. Now even that one is gone, she having brought suit for divorce and asking a restoration of her maiden name, not wanting to longer bear that of him who by his own deeds has destroyed her peace and happiness. Horrible indeed, are the consequences in his case of sin. With every reason for desiring to live gone, death ought to be a longed for relief for Youtsey, whose life can be but a ceaseless burden and regret. Liberty FAiR.-G- ood crowds attended the Liberty fair each day and the show of stock and races were about as good as usual. Lincoln county furnished much of the show stock and the owners took their full quota of the premiums. The fair was held on the Whipp grounds this year and while it was more convenient to town, shade was lacking. The promoters of the enterprise should be ablo to declare a good dividend.
