I! this week when the supreme court of the United States decided in tho case of tho Commonwealth of Kentucky vs. the Adams Express Company that the latter can not bo fined for shipping liquors to this State from another, be- causo it is interstate commerce and not subject to State interference. The case involved the shipment of liquor from Tennessee to Oonnieville, in Hart county, Ky., in which the Express Company was fined $50 in each of several cases of a similar nature. A law which permits the will of a local majority to bo set at naught in this manner ought to be repealed. Prohibitory laws can make Proiubiiion pot another black POLITICAL. but slow progress so long as it remains on the statute books. Estimates show that the deficit in the State treasury will reach $1,500,000 by tho end of the fiscal year, June 30. Considering that there were $1,400,000 to tho good when tho republicans took charge, this Is going some. It is but justice to say, however, that tho last general assembly made many large appropriations without providing for their payment. It is also but justice to soy that Gov. Willson has spent $1G1,14S.99 for soldiers to suppress the night riders, much of which was a useless expense. The unveiling of the statue of Gov. Goebel has again been postponed owing to the illness of Arthur Goebel, who is in the West fighting an unequal battle with the dread tuberculosis. The monument has not been veiled for some time. It stands near the entrance to Frankfort' 8 city of tho dead, and is the object of great interest to all visitors at the capital, who loved the martyred statesman In life and revere his memory in death. We are not a very ardent admirer of Congressman Langley, of the 10th Kentucky district, but he is right in some things. His bill to prohibit the National government from issuiug liquor licenses In dry States or sections ought to be enacted into law. Maine has been "dry" for two generations, by State law, but the government in a measure nullifies its operations by issuing 358 liquor licenses in the State. It is a burning shame. The report that Gen. Johnston has resigned es adjutant general ought to be true if it isn't. It is humiliating to see this old Confederate soldier and former head of the democratic party in Kentucky playing second fiddle for an incompetent republican administration. The "general" ought to have retired long ago and begun doing penance the balance of his life for his sins to the party, which formerly so signally hon- Crawford, Owen and Madison counpower toller anil engine ami taw nington, Heo. ties, Ind., went "dry" in hot election mill lor tale. The Legislature passed the bill perboxing bouts in mitting The perfection of real estate, all that is beautiful and desirable in country life, in- eluding locality, soil and improvements, is embodied in a farm o 45 acres, adjoining the thriving town of Uryantsvillr, Ky,. and near the famous Camp Dicb Robinson farms, which sell at over Jloo per acre There are three tracts, with dwellings and improemcnts en each, suitable for three families desiring to locate on adjoining farms; or, if bought by one party, two houses could be occupied by tobacco tenants. Tha best equipped barn in the county, is on tho premises, having water supplied bv a wind-milThe floors are ouilt as residence flooring, the stalls are large and well constructed, machinery for cutting feed being run by an engine. Stock scales and a large tobacco barn are among other improvements. The land lies well and is of a high grade, well fenced, well watered a ponton of it being matted with blue grass, in gently undulating pastures. Most of the land has been kept in grass and will easily raise 1,500 pounds of.hemp, 1 Soo pjuuefs f tsbacco and 60 to 75 bushels of corn. Such soil is the basis of all value, and the large profit, which It yields on the Investment, explains why capital is seeking real estate, it being not only the best but the safest This, together with the Investment. fact that population Is increaiing, thereby insuring a continuance, ofgood prices for farm products, proves that good real estate will continue to advance in price, Resides the intrinsic value of a home, the locality and surroundings render it more or less valuable. Good roads, good, schools, churches and good morals are important factors, in determining the value of a farm, because they contribute to man's substantial happiness, which is the mainspring of human action and the object sought, la every section of our country. These elements enter largely into the attrautiveoeas and, consequently, the value of this property. The enterprise ot the citizens in that section is further manifested by the fact that they are preparing to establish a Graded School at Ilryants ville, and if they succeed, which is almost certain, this property will advance from lo to 20 dollars on the acre, as property has done near Lancaster and other towns, where suh schools have been established, keeping the money and children at home and giving the'm a good education This picture is not overdrawn, and we invite those looking (or a bargain in a some that has all tlis attractive leatures, to let vs show it to them. This farm is also within four miles of a navigable stream, which is of greater advantage for markets than the sime distance from a railroad, for it gives cheaper rales and better facilities for transportation to market of all farm products, and live stock can be shipped from one head up to a boat load, while coal and lumber can be purchased at less price.
