district As this paper stated last iwue It took no hand In tho primary and ICreiteratw what it said congrat ulating the victor and sympathizing with the vanquished Tho Courier Journal claims the nomination of Judge Saufley a victory for the whisky ele meat but such is not tho case We know of many warm temperance people who1 were teeth and toe nail for Judge Saufley The whisky question should never have been injected In the race and the temperance people now sees their error Judge Saufley has proven his fitness for the position by 11 years on the bench and ho will again demonstrate that he is the ablest cir cult judge In tho State There is the usual talk about the nominee being de feated in November by a republican but such ia the worst kind of tommy 1 rot Judge Saufley will win and win easy Infact we doubt that tho rev publicansjwill have the temerity to put- a man against him Judge Owsley who made the race against Judge Saufley Is well known In this district and his many friends sympathize with him inhis defeat Ho Is a good lawyer and I well equipped to make a fine judge The editor of this paper voted for him in the race but is quite as warm for Judge Sanfloy now as hewas for seen in many a day The ex governor in an editorial in the State Jour L nal shows the fallacy of Mr Watter sons damnable Poll Parrot iteration that a Democrat can dot be a prohibi tionist and says that his being one does o not effect his party standing any more than his taking the other side of the proposition Thequestion of prohibi tion is going to be settled by the pee pe and should no more divide the demo cratic party than it has the republican party The article closes with an ape peal that every true democrat will endorse Democrats may differ updn this e matter just as they differ upon religion literature social affairs or any other subject but the StateJTJournal simply asks that they stand reunited aggrea sive and hopeful that by wise and sensible action they may restore this State
