State Journal and CourierJournal in particular fall short of argument they shout look at Maine I Well lets look at Maine Stitlatics ehow that drunkenness there has decreased under prohibition Maine his more sayings banks a greater per c ipita and better schools than almost Thathntthat State is prosperous and her people are satisfied with prohibition Atlanta citizens men that we know and not hearsay are delighted that the opens loon no longer exists Records show that business is improved and that lesa than half as many people have to beB supported by the city as when whisky was sold there But Messrs Walton and Watterson cry out in unison prohibition does not prohibit and just look at Maine That settles the ques tion with those splendid but erring gentlemen and they go ahead feeling as if a momentous question has been solved forthe people of this good State Mr Walton thinks that local option is a failure here irt Stanford because this paper occasionally reports a case of drunkennessor mentions some skunk being finedjforbootlegging When he lived here and when saloons were op erated a drunken man was not an unu sual sight but it is now so unusual in fact that it is almost an item of news Some whisky is being sold here under local option butjwe hope to eventually stop it entirely Rome was not built in a day The fear of being put to death does not stop some people from committing murder but it certainly decreases it Local option may not sto the sale and drinking of whisky entirely but it decreases it to such an alarming extent that the distilleries and whisky dealers are almost frantic with race at those who dare oppose their r business The INTERIOR JOURNAL did not say Brer Walton that the temper ance people are more sensible than those who favor booze but it did say and reiterates that all of the brains of the State are not found on your side of the whisky question You are as far off there as when you say that temperance people are governed more by se timent than by good common eve day sense and practicability Judge not lest that ye be judged The tem perance people have the good of the State at heart and while some may be overzealous sentiment cuts no figure with them They believe they ara on the right aids of the most important question that has ever confronted them and they dont propose to quit until they conquer They invite you and MrI
