Dowcll, cousins, became engaged In a fight. Thompson, while acting as peace maker, was accidentally shot by Jeff Dowell from which he never recovered. Dowell was tried in HUSTONVILLE. In May, 1780, Kentucky acquaintances, is a prominent member of tho Christian church and a member of the city council until recently. In the interest of good roads why docs not Kentucky follow the splendid example set by Virginia 7 In a meeting held in Richmond recently a complete State organization was effected with $10,000 pledged nnd the Legislature asked to appropriate 5500,000 more for good roads. A campaign of education on tho subject to awaken the people to the needs of better management that will result in better roads should be made. At J. S. Underwood's sale Saturday, stock brought fair prices, sheep sold at f6 75 A good crowd attended. The sale of Charles Lutes Saturday was well attended and bidding lively. Thirty sheep sold at $6 50, cows $25and up, ono pony brought 15, four horses were taken down to await the combination Household goods sold at fair sale. Mr. Lutes left for Canada prices. Joe Morris, the noted thoroughbred handler, is the guest of T. L Carpenter. Mr. C. L. Holmes, the veteran traveler, of Louisville, spent Saturday and Sunday here C. L. Pile and wife were here shopping Saturday. Sam Bishop has returned from a delightful Southern tour, stopping several days at Jacksonville and other points, where he met a number Mrs. Wm. Cabell arof Kentuckians. rived here to see Mrs. Frances Cabell, who is seriously ill. To try and arrest the ravages of the great white plague, on Dec. 12, 1908, Police Judge Vnl B. Morse, accompan ied by his devoted mother left here for Deming, N. M. The unfavorable weath er there, in spite of the close attention of the best physicians, caused a rapid decline and he passed into the great be yond, from which none ever return, on March 11th, aged 25. Some days before his death he asked to be "taken home to die," but his physicians said he would die en route. Mrs. Morse, with the remains arrived Tuesday morning nnd after an Impressive funeral service by Rev. W. S. Willis at the Christian church, n largo concourse of sorrowing friends attended the burial in Hustonvlllo cemetery. The floral offerings were exceedingly profuse and o d B1 ill! Hardly has anything been more of a shock to our town than was tho message which (lashed over the wires about noon Tuesday, from near Pongo, thnt Manly Albright was instantly killed nt Bullock's saw mill. Manly left here Tuesday morning about 8 o'clock, hale and hearty, but was soon cut down. He was 25 years of age nnd n son of Mrs. Mary Albright. He was a travel ing salesman for Stratton & Terstege Hani ware Co.. of Louisville, nnd was on one of his business trips when killed. Just how ho was caught in tho mill machinery is not known, but it is presumed the wind ulew a portion of his overcoat near a shaft which was making about GOO revolutions per minute, catching his coat and pulling him down literacy breaking every bone in his body. The remains were brought here nnd met by Mr. J. (J. MoClary who prepared them for burial. They were taken and interred in the McKinncy cemetery Thursday. Several from Mt. Ver non including Misses Alza and Susie Thompson, Mrs John W. Brown and Mr. A. B. Furnish nccompanied the remains here and several from hero went to the funeral nt McKinncy. Besides his mother.
