to see a notice of your Centennial publication of Hop kiustille aud Christian couuty Plaaso allow me to say to you that I was born in Hopkinsville Ky Sep Mth 1819 I am tho soil of Geo L Locker who was ono of the first mer chants of tho place T am a nephew of the late William M Shipp of the county and also of the iat Kezin Elliott aud of the late John H Phelps and jleuheu Rowland all once prominent men of the town and county of which no doubt you are apprised I am very desirous to have a eppj of your late publication I have two brothers living in the county John P Locker aged 73 and James L Locker aged 71 If there are any old citizens there ask them whether they have any recollection of a boy named Laben Locker who was there when the town was small com paratively If I understand tho town seems to have been incorporated in 1797 which makes me juBt twenty two years younger than the town If I were with you I could tell you many old reminiBCeiices of the past Sixty years ago I loft my home there and came down to Eddyville lived iht io many years Came to this place in the woods in the fall of 1849 a town has grown up hero of importance a good shipping point on Tennessee river and considerable business is done heie If there are any of the old Clark Tamihes there perhaps the oldest of them can recollect of my family and name also Bradshaws Kellys and a host of other old names I
