be about 5000 knots At 8 knots speed the coal consumption would be about 8K tons per day and the steaming radius will be about 5050 miles making it possible to run them at that speed from San Third ward the race was neck and neck between Geo M Steele and Dennis RPerry until noon when according to the best guessers Perry was five votes ahead This lead was slightly increased as the time crept by ana at the close Perry had 69 and Steele 60 with only 7 votes in the ward not accounted for This elec- ¬ tion was quiet and orderly and the result was acquiesced in by both sides The officers were B W Har ned and J G Bramham judges and C E Kennedy clerk In the Fourth Geo D Dalton had a good thing and pushed it along Only 56 votes without 6ppo3ition were cast and he got them all The officers were Jno H Bell and J S Duncan judges and H M Dalton clerk In the Fifth ward the Republican stronghold no election was held In the Sixth the fight was between E M Flack and Harry H Hopper There were 125 voters in the ward and all but 21 were cast Flack received 72 and Hopper 34 The officers were C F Lacy and C H Anderson judges and Geo H Smith clerk In the Seventh there was another close and doubtful contest uutjl the last vote was polled The fkrht was betwe6n W A Pool of the south and Alex Campbell of the north end of the ward There were 86 names on the books and there were found 44 votes for Pool and 43 for Campbell one ballot too many for the names recorded This was the only irregularity discovered in any ward and had not been settled when the count was made Tho
