nominations for city councilmen in six of the wards of Hopkinsville will be made tomor- ¬ row in a primary election between the hours of 8 a m and 4 p m In some wards there will be close and doubt- ¬ ful contests while in others the result is clearly foreshadowed In the first ward Councilman Hol land is a candidate for re election and the ward seems to be well satisfied with him There have been some efforts to get out another candidate and it is said Dr J M Dennis who is absent in Virginia will be voted for by those opposed to Mr Holland In the second uouncuman u oroes is opposed by Mr J D Ware and a hot contest is on between them In the third Councilman Steele and Mr Dennis R Perry are having a lively race with the excitement getting to a white heat In the fourth there seems to be but little opposition to Councilman Nearly all of the voters Dalton have signed a call upon him but there is some talk of an opposing man be ing put out against hira but who it will be could not be learned yesterday The fifth is the Republican strong ¬ hold and no candidates are after the nomination in that ward In the 6th calls were circulated last week upon several gentlemen to run against Councilman Flack but the opposition finally centered on Mr Harry Hopper and the race will be run out between them In the 7th Councilman Pool has two opponents Mr W J Withers from his own end of the ward and Esq Alex Campbell from the North end There are 18 voters on North Main street who met and en ¬ dorsed Mr Campbell and asked both of the other candidates to let them have the councilman but this was not agreed to and the contest will be fought out at the polls It is likely that in some of the wards the oki members will be de ¬ feated though a majority of them are pretty certain to pull stepped from robust health and strength Into Incurable disease iToweling and massage should always follow a row boat excursion In tho early part of every season our brawny young men have blistered hands and well browned faces the blistered hands come from the oars the browned arms and bronzed faces are caused by rays of the sun but brawn and beauty go together and the blistering and burning are cheerfully endured because of the influence which they may have upon the mind of beauty by inducing her to believe that her swain is a gallant and hardy young man Many a Pyramus and Thisbe learn lessons of Cupid on the river There is no better place on earth than upon the broad smooth waters of the Potomac for boating rowing and sailing In every way that nature could aid it the Potomac was perfected in the prehistoric days as a resort for lovers of aquatic sports It is perfectly safe for the most frail craft to venture upon its bosom because land breezes seldom ruffle It and its current is so light that any able Doaiea man or woman can easily row against it Tho wooded shores of tho upper Potomac are close to the city and the stream flows between tho historic hills of Virginia and the Palisades of Georgetown 60 that It cannot be surpassed In plcturesqueness by any river in the world The shores upon either hand present landscape subjects which tho greatest of artists mignt be proud to bo able to transfer to canvas It is not a narrow body of water but big enough for all and it Is unusually safe because there are no rocks for any boat to run upon save tho Three Sisters those bowlders which are In plain sight rearing their crest3 far above the water at high tide The lonely ledges above Aqueduct bridge can be seen for a milo or more and they are therefore not dangerous The shores are sloping swards so that landings can be easily and safely effected Moonlight rides upon the river are sometimes very exciting and tragedies 4iave occurred which have never been explained On one occasion the son of a senator went rowing with a beautiful widow It was rumored they were to be married The lo dy denied the report to her friends She even declared that¬ she would never again airtight canoes were dreamed of or conceived by the inventive genius of man The exercise gives a glow and color to their cheeks which cannot be duplicated by artificial applications It is the real genuine peach blow bloom of health But we have sailor lads and lassies as well as manipulators of the oars There are some magnificent yachts here and quite a number of little launches which are run by baby engines and infant naphtha generators One of them has a whistle which is the It wonder of this part of the world starts with a heavy low basso pro fundo growl and gradually traverses the chromatic scale until it ends in a fierce shriek which can be heard for more than a mile It Is rightly named the Calliope launch and every time the engineer has enough steam to spare he blows it off through the whistle and hears a chorus of cheers and laughter from every direction The little boat is not bigger than a common Missis- ¬ sippi river skiff but Its whistle is big enough for an ocean steamer Its first notes are like the bowlings of a Maine coast fog horn but before it gets through it shrieks and screams like a wilderness full of catamounts or a prairie full of coyotes on a Bummer night The Calliope launch has been on the river for bo many seasons now that it Is a part of the programme to have Its whistle enliven the hours it is a fixture almost as much to be ex pected as the a great gathering of gentlemen who are engaged in their extermination For four days says tho Philadelphia Beeord representatives from every part of the colony held high debate over the animals be read with great interest by medical men everywhere in repiy to trie Uiruttan Advocates ques tions Mr Spaulding said About eight yean ago while running a locomotive I contracted sciatic rheumatism in mv left side from my hip down It came on slow but sure and in a few months I lost control entirely of that member it was just the same as if it was paralyzed I was totally unable to move out of my room for a year and a half six months of which time I was bedridden I tried every remedy suggested and had regu ¬ lar physicians in constant attendance on I was bundled tip and sent to Hot me Springs where I scent three months under the treatment of the most eminent special ¬ ists all of which did me no good and I came back from the springs in a worse condition than when I went I came home and laid fiat on my back and suffered the most excruciating agonies screaming in pain every time anybody walked across the room the only ease I obtained being from the constant nse of opiates After three months of this kind of agony during which time my entire left leg perished away to the very bone my attention was called to s new remedy called Dr Williams Pink Fills for Pale People by Mr Allison who is sow train dispatcher at Texarknna and who was relieved of locomotor ataxia of twenty years duration At his urgent and repeated solicitation I consented to give them a trial after taking a few doses I began to improve I continued taking the pills and kept right on improving until I was finally cured My leg u just the same size now as the other one and I am sure that Pink Pills not only cured me but saved my life The reporter next visited Dr CH Stani bury a graduate of one of the medical schools of Kentucky and a man who enjoyi the confidence of everybody in Longview I know that Mr Spaulding had Ho said a terribly severe attack of sciatic rheumatism of which I tried to cure him used every- thing known to my profession in vain and finally recommended him to go to Hot Springs lie came back from the springs worse than when he went aud I thought it was only a matter of time until his heart would be affected and he would die I also know that his cure is the direct result of the use of Dr Williams Pink Pills That is rather an unusual statement for a regular physician to make doctor I know it is but a fact is a fact and there are hundreds of people right here in Longview who know what I say is the truth I also know Mr Allison and know that ho was relieved of a genuine and severe case of locomotor ataxia of twenty years standing CERULEAN SPRINGS Kent acky T W GUNN TrioQ Ccmntv is
