taxation on these institutions as under the Hewitt law at seventy five cents on each S100 valuation which will be in lieu of all other taxation and which will not only add about 120000 per annum hereafter to the state revenue but will to make the banks oblige up the difference between 42 cents and 75 cents for the past three years when the revenue act went into effect and which in itself will aggregate about 360000 no small sum for the State in these times of stringeucy to place to the credit of a still larger de licit in the general revenue fund The greatest excitement prevails here in consequence of the decision The bankers were jubilant and were too happy to contain themselves Un the other hand the opposition is correspondingly depressed The effect of the decision will bring into the state treasury from the banks about 360000 in addition to the 200000 that is regularly paid by them This will come near clearing up the deficit that is now pending Prof Chas H Dietrich the popular superintendent to take effect June 14 Prof Dietrichs school year ex pires on that date and he chose this method of notifying the board that he would not be an applicant for re election This voluntary
