departure by giving an elegant banquet at tho Hotel Richelieu to a number of prominent people and the next day borrowed 7000 from the Then he same persons and disappeared went to Ithica N Y Europe again and back to New Orleans where ho assumed the character of New York Herald correspondent and from the head of a Shreveport cotton firm secured 1000 Coming to St Paul he had considerable success under the name of Wilbur F James and finally confidenced jewellers here out of 3000 worth of goods From here he went to Europe and his next exploit was to cheat Wm Kendricks Sons of Louisville out of his escape ¬ St Paul Minn Oct 14 Deputy ¬ ¬ tho Life of Georgo Burns by Shooting Him Owingsvillk Ky Oct 13 Late yes ¬ terday evening John Robinson a worth ¬ less and vicious negro shot and instantly killed Geo Burns in tho town of Sharps burg a highly respected and well to do colored man This is regarded as one of tho most deliberate cold blooded murders ever perpetrated in this part of tho coun- ¬ try As usual there is a woman in tho cose Burns was a farmer and for ono of his class n prosperous ono Since tho death of his wifo a year or more ago he has employed a woman of his own color as housekeeper It was also generally beliovcd that they wcro moro intimate than their relations would justify Some months ago Robinson aimo into tho community and receiving work on a turnpiko near by made his homo at Burns He had been there but a short timo when he married tho housekeeper aforesaid knowing full well tho relations between the woman and her employer After marriage Robinson and wife continued to live with Burns tho woman still doing tho housework Jealousy on the part of Robinson soon became ap parent but he smothered his feelings and they managed to get along without an open rupture until Wednesday even ¬ ing last On that evening Burns went to Sharpsburg on business and took Rob ¬ insons wife along with him in his wagon ostensibly to assist him in making somo purchases This was more than Robin son could stand and following them to town he took a position by tho side of the store door into which Burns had gone to transact some business With drawn revolver Robinson hailed his victim as he stepped from tho door but without giving him time to reply or defend him ¬ self shot him through the heart killing him instanly Robinson has but one arm but is re- ¬ garded as
