coming to one you will not cheer Why is Kentucky a laggard among other States and especially among the regenerated Southern States Why is a Slate so endowed and whose genealogy is such as to produce tho bravest and most intellectual of men and the lovliest of females not only in the Union but in the world whose racers and cattle are such that no imported stock can linger long in their glorious Blucgrass homo but it is improved why a State not only en ¬ dowed with tliebc but whose coal and other mineral resources exceed in quan tity the combination of coal and iron resources iu any State in founderies and institutions of learning at Atlanta Birmingham and the other growing cities of that regener ated land JAir three weeks I lingered in the garden fields of the Union that State Florida whose growth compared with Northern States admitted to tlie Union at the sumo time though slow is yet a land of granduer The foremost among the non mineral producing States will in the future be tho All the crew saw it and tlieru were some black looks but uo man dared to lift up his voice In a few moments the mate returned with the intelligence that ho had con- ¬ fined the mulatto below and had put on him heavy leg irons Captain Willis walked tho deck for half an hour with tho mate advising as to what should be done in the grave situation in which the ship was placed Every hour seemed to
