times The President spoke of the Re publican Club of New York the Hamilton Club of Chicago and other organizations similar in charac ter and expressed the belief that through these clubs interest and At Variance WILL HOLD ON TO THE WEED Buyers Claim That Market iis Gluttedl from Purchases Last Year MAY CUT OUT CROP NEXT YEAR The Owensboro Messenger says From present Indications 1 it looks as though some little time may elpase before the pool of the Green River Tobacco Growers As sociation which has approximately i 20000000000 pounds of tobacco pledged to It will be sold as the price that the board of control has placed on the samples of the crop is more than the crop is worth ac cording to the statements of the buyers or at Jeast a portion ol them There has been no olllclal meet ing between the buyers and the as sociation officials but In the sever al conferences that have been held the buyers state that the price scale ranging from 10 down to C forthe leaf and lugs and 3 for the trash is more than the tobacco iIE worth to them while the farmers state that they will hold out for the price that they have set on the I tobaccoFrom the viewpoint of the buy or at least according to their IIera there Is a surplus of tobaccc I this year and they also claim that while the color of the tobacco is improved this year over that of last season the weed Is sadlyI lacking in weight and body I The farmers side of the proposition Is that they must receive the j prices that they have set In order to enjoy any sort of returns on their j tobacco They claim that the ac tual cost of production of tobacccI is something over six cents owing Ijto tht high cost of farm labor and iI that under the price scale they have submitted on the samples the av erage of the tobacco will be only about seven and onequarter centst per pound so that It would be Im possible for them to consider a lower figure on the samples that they have made jI The pool last year was something over 20000000 pounds and the i buyers claim that the crop glutted 1the market so that they do not I stand in need of the crop this year at such high prices The farmers iare equally positive that they will hold on and that they will not sell their tobacco at a figure lower than they consider It to be worth I I Before taking final action on any matter of prices or closing a deal j I for the sale of the pool the board lof control of the association must submit the matter to the poolers ji themselves for final ratification and acceptance or rejection i There were a great many of the farmers in the association head quarters on Saturday and all of them expressed their willingness and determination to back up the board in the demand for 0 fair price for the tobacco and said that they would never willingly sell for less than the prices that they consider very fair- There is a probability that the buyers and the association officials will attempt to get together on the piatter of prices this week but ItlIs hardy probable that the sale will be closed for several days The Equity and Home Ware house people have made up their samples but It Is understood that they have not yet determined upon the scale of prices that they will demand for the tobacco I The growers who pool state that In the event of a hitch In the sohI DI tthe tobacco this year they will hold the crop and will then not make another crop of tobacco next year but will devote their time lo the growing bt btner fatal prod acts It is stated thatijhV farmers are quiet tfut determined to the matter and thatth y feelthat the price placed pn theJt9JJJltflijowest JhaJJ they could name so that they could r T make a reasonable profit on their time and labor and that to sell for a lower price would be simply to have grown the crop at a loss SCHOOLS ARE UNABLE TO PAY TIn TEACHEUH Fankfort Ky Nov 8School teachers of the State will not re ceive the second Installment of their salaries for several weeks The second installment Hartfo ld postoffice a man matter of the second class And about the best prt of it all was that so many Democrats had a hand in it with their hardearned dollars and little twentyfivecent pieces I The original Wilson men in Ken tucky are now coming in for hon orable mention And Ahey deserve all the kindly things being said about them Xo son it doesnt take any pro fessional taxidermist to fix up a Thanksgiving turkey Most any good housewife can beat the pro fessional and not half try But almost the hardest blow of all was the defeat of Uncle Joe Can non Iroquois county the largest county in Mr Cannons district I went against him tot the first time j in many years Strayed Away One Presidential candidate recently elected Says hes going to stay hid for several days and get a rest His recent op ponents have little trouble in avoid- Ing the reporters Poor old elephant every year he looks about ten years older than he did just after the last Preslden tiat electlon but this year he looks cfoar down and out with little or no hope of recuperation For the firstttine In many years Trigg county gave a Republican majority of G2 at the election last week The Cadiz Record says it was the stayathome vote that did it which Is no doubt correct The blotonKentuckys splendid election record is the fact that Caleb Powers Is returned to Congress Otherwise the affair is so glorious however that we can In a measure overlook this discrep ancyThe Bull Moose asall right as a fine specimen of the hunters de light but like most of his species he got rattled at the supreme mo ment and immediately there was a stampede Everybody knows the rest Mr Bryan has declined to dis cuss the secretaryship of State in Gov Wilsons cabinet Mr Bryan is not pretty but he has a long head Perhaps the Nebraskan nurses 1916 ambitions who knows We have an idea that the pie hunters might as well curb their appetites for awhile yet Presl dentelect Wilson Is a very conser t vative sort of fellow and he will not be rash in either promising or dish- Ing out political pie in all of which he will show his wisdom Even thvery eve of the election we heard Bull Moosers and Republicans bemoaning the great blunder made by the Democrats In nominating Woodrow Wilson Seems like they felt something coming but didnt know just what it was At Denton Ky Thursday morn Ing when Postmaster W S Griffith arrived at the ppstofilce he was startled by findinga real live roaster sitting quietly In the postoffice door Editor Cross does not at tempt to explain but we suppose he takes this incident as a matter of courser It seems strange that as long as the people have been voting by se cret ballot and as much instruc tion as they have had on the sub ject that they should continue to make blunders About 20 ballots In this county were stamped with the cross opposite one of the elec tors The best plan Is to stamp be neath a device within the circle There was perhaps never a Campaign in the history of the country carried on with less anxiety along financial and business lines Not a ripple in the business stream indi cated that anything out of the or dinary was transpiring The con fidence in Gov Wilsons business Integrity Is supreme and we are continuing along an era of progress and prosperity with undiminished strides LOAF OF BREAD KEPT FOR DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT Pittsburg Penn Nov 9On November 3 1896 the day
