Terribly maltreated by a maddened mule, little Andrew Roberts, soil of Newton noberts, a stock breeder of this county, is in a critical condition at his father's home. Despondent over his continued failure to obtain employment since the adjournment of the last session of the State Legislature, Joseph Franklin Richardson, formerly n prominent farmer of the Blrk City neighborhood, in Daviess county, committed suicide at his home at Central City Friday by jumping In to a well and drowning. Mr. Richardson was a veteran of between the war the States, during which, while serving In the famous "Orphan Brigade" of the Confederate army, he suffered the loss of an arm. Mr. Richardson was Assessor of Daviess county for several years, succeeding Tom Aull. At one time he represented county In the Lower House of the State Legislature and at the last session of that body he was doorkeeper of the Senate. Since tho adjournment of the Legislature he had been seeking an appointment as guard at the Eddyvllle penitentiary and when he recognized his failure to secure the appointment, he became bitterly despondas the ent, which Is attributed cause for his rash act.
