One Week After Repub lican Convention A FINE BUILDING TO MEET IN E S Washington Jan 12The Democratic National Convention theI N date of which was set this mornln for June 25 was awarded this after noon to Baltimore over St Louis Denver Chicago and Now York Baltimore offered a certified check for 100000 Two ballots were taken On th first Baltimore received 25 votes St Louis 19 Chicago 3 Denver 6 and New York 1 On the second ballot Baltimore receivedl 29 votes St Louis 22 and Chicago 1 This gave Baltimore a clear majority and the decision theY was made unanimous The first business transacted was to decide that the convention should be held June 25 one week after the Republican National Convention At this time the place of the convention had not been determined Denver made the first bid for the convention Charles F Franklin of that city addressing the committee at length Denver offered reasonable and necessary expenses for the convention and promised to be lib yoral Mr Franklin Japanese soldiers are now In Hawaii ready to wrest that Invaluable possession from the United States the War Departmen admitted today that definite plans are now complete to equip and rust an entire division of troops recruit ed to war strength to those Islands for permanent service It was de- cidedi to send five regiments of In fantry each of the twelve compan- Ies recruited to 150 men one reg Iment of cavalry every troop at ful fighting strength one full regiment of field artillery to be separated from the mobile army one compa ny of the signal corps All are te be accompanied by the necessar sanitary force and under the command of a major general- It was further learned toda that not content with sending a ful fe division of soldiers to Hawaii the Government has sent the Pacific sq adronot armored cruisers ai well These four big ships are at the present moment carefully engaged In making a minute survey of the coast from a naval point ot view It being their purpose to ac In Kentucky with such fatal results ac cording to statistics gathered by tho State Board of Health that It Is estimated that one out of every twelve women and one out of every seventeen men In Kentucky who live to t e thirtyfive years old will die of cancer The statistics show that during tho last year In Kentucky there wore 840 deaths of cancer It was also shown at the regular annual meeting of the State Board of Health here that hookworm has made Its appearance In twentytwo counties having appeared where one would least expect it in the homes of leading citizens of such counties as WarrenThe of Health with the newly appointed members present elected Dr John Q South of Frank fort proildont of the Board heard the annual report of the secretary Dr J N McCormack of Bowling Green and elected him secretary for tbj ensuing two years this being His thirtythird year as secretary of the Board Dr A T McCormack was elected assistant secretary and I health inspector Dr McCormack
