Negro Booker T Washington wo hardly thought his precept would reach Powell so soon but it has in a slight variation and Sanford Garrett of Clay City is the distinguished and honored gentleman While we do not wish to censure the converition which dele gated this Negro to the Paris convention and empowered him to cast time vote of the county we think the inception ian seri ous mistake on their part The Negroes ot OlnyCity have alway be n humble and have kept themselves in their places and to begin extending such priv ileges to them is only adding im pudence and an equiponderant disposition to an incapable and a subordinate creature who in af ter years may bring sorrow to our best families through their keepepresent attitude we must render unto them only such privileges as will hold them at bey We believe in the greatest pos sible advancement of the Negro but we do not believe in trying to do so unless show a onlyewhen it steers clear of any asso ciation with the Whites The Negro must be advanced but in Negro associations only Matters In Breathltt The press of the State together with unprejudiced opinion hold the officials of BreathittH ton great degree responsible for the present state of affairs in that county Thisjis denied by the inpynocen thorough investigation of the charges so openly trade and if innocent the accusations stop ped So far the assassinators go unpunished and it is alleged the convicting witnesses will not give in their testimony Under such circumstances it will be hard to convict the guilty in the home court without outside protection which cannot be sent until de manded by tie local authorities and they have not yet pone this Those unreasonable and eager editors who are so severely criti cising Governor Beckham for not going UI there and getting je venge for them might go them= selvo and complete the job as they are empowered with the same authority that the Governor now is In Need of a Change Let our county authorities try to introduce
