Thursdays at 7 in evening Afternoon 330 services will be held on Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Friday Everybody cordially invited Rev James L Mc Kee sen of Dr McKee has promised to assist during the meeting Bryan In Lancaster About 10 oclock Tuesday morning a telegram was received by Mr Joe E Robinson stating that Bryan would make a tenminute speech from his train In Lancaster THE RECORDS presses were soon turning out bills announcing the fact and by night a tremendous crowd had gathered about the depot A row of electric lights had been strung about the and the vicinity was as bright as day A mighty cheer went up as the train hove in sight and the noise was doubled when the great leader appear ed He spoke deliberately his voice Showing the great strain which had been upon it during his stay in Ken tucky He urged democrats to stick together and elect Goebel as a big victory in Ken uc y would inspire the party all over the country He put in a few telling blows for free silver jol lied the crowd occasionally and closed with a beautiful appeal to the party to stand in line Mr Goebel was then called for He thanked the Garrard county democracy for him in the Louisville convention and said he now asked them to help elect him governor The time big limited Mr Goebel could only say a few words Senator Joe Blackburn was then for and said he always came in last His folks wanted him in early life to be a Presbyterian preacher and now Bryan and Goebel carried him around only to pronoun e benedictions After a few well chos en remarks made only as the genial Joe can make them the engine bell rang and the train sped away to Stan ford The crowd was very enthusias tic and cheered the speakers to the echo It was a very orderly gather ing and ladies were present li d Tailor made at her home near Paint Lick Her remains were buried in the at that place on Sunday in the presence of a large crowd of friends and relatives Deceased was an estimable lady and was to some of the largest and most influential families in the county Sam Jones The large court room was packed and jammed last night by people to hear the inimitable Sam Jones We frequently read this mans lectures and sermons but it is impossible to get the full benefit of them unless you hear the man Sam Jones is not a preacher who goes about with a face as long as a well rope nor does he sport the longtail coat but when it comes to fighting the devil he can deal his Satanic majesty such telling blows as are seldom delivered He goes for the fraud or Sundayonly Christian the miser the whisky seller the liar etc etc with words which cannot be misunderstood If every preacher and every law loving citizen of Lancaster were to work against sin with the earnestness and vigor that Sam Jones does this town would soon be too good for earth and have to be removed to the bett land It is to be deplored that we do not have more men that will come out Hatfooted against crime and But it is just as he says every fellow is afraid that it Will work interest to take pron j inent part in lighting sin The was greatly enjoyed though we il suppose there are a few of the kk f glove whose revolted against Mr Jones 5 plain talk It shocked their because such sapheads have nothing else to shock We have to j our old ollice apron to rub over fi the pain caused by hearing people say j Sam Jones language is too course God hasten the day when every preacher j and every lawloving citizen will pull off his coat and tight for right with the same does Sam Jones To The Citizens of Lancaster- I take the liberty of announcing to you that I have engaged the the Hon A A Taylor of Johnson City Tenn to deliver his matchless lecture Lifes Poetry and Pearls at the Court House Wednesday Nov 1 at 8 p m As Mr Taylor may be a stranger to some of you I desire to say that his name became prominent to the eyes of the people of the United States when in 1880 he and his brother Robert L Taylor opposed each other for the Governorship of Tennessee and made a joint canvass of the State the most noted Gubernatorial Contest ever waged in the United States as The War of the Roses No contest was ever waged more en ergetically as they crossed swords and clashed shields all over the state but to the credit of both nothing was ev er said or done to break tbe amity the two brothers Mr Taylor was a member of Congress from 1885 till he entered the lecture field In the year 1894 he and his brother Gov Bob Taylor lectured In the South and East jointly on the subject Yankee Doodle and Dixie For the past three years he has been engaged in preparing his lecture Lifes Poetry and Pearls and as his tour of the United States includes Lancaster you will have the pleasure of hearing him early in the season while he is at h s host I have had the pleasure of heal Jng him on two different occasions and1 I regard him as one of the greatest orators if not the greatest In the United States His lecture is hu morons county are so wrapped up in get ting another railroad and waterworks that they are not bothering their heads as to who are to draw salaries from the Commonwealth during the next four years And this is just about the sum and substance of the matter Of course there are some who are their hair but they are chronic enthusiasts and the people have become used to hearing them tell why their candidate should and will be elected The hum of in dustry is fast drowning out the screak ing voice of the politician and the people have awakened to the fact that no matter which party is in power they will have to work from early morn til candle light to earn money with which to purchase necessaries of life THE Louisville base ball club the season with barely its foretop sticking out of the water This is a much better showing than in years If Louisville would secure a firstclass team and play it to win it would be a moneymaking investment for the owners Only enough games are won to make the Kentuckians think dammit and wish both and players were in a warmer clime A SPECIAL to a Cincinnati paper tells of a big meeting conducted in this state by two preachers who get their hearers so wrought up as to cause them to fall in a faint and lie unconscious for several hours The foolishness carried on by these cranks and frauds is hurting the cause of religion and citizens should take the fakirs and apply a barrel stave to the most appropriate place THE Mountain Sentinel has been established at Manchester Kentucky we believe after reading the papers The Sentinel is chock full of interesting reading matter and among other items announces Pray or meeting every Wednesday night at 730 If it should fall to our lot to be on the Sentinel we would insist on holding services much than once a week ENGLAND and South Africa are waging war in earnest and we would advise Queen Victoria to send for Teddy Roosevelt if she wants the Boers exterminated in a great rush She could then feast the remainder of her life on magazine articles of the gallantry of Teddy Our sympathy is with England now as hers was with us during the Cuban war JUST think of the physical strength being wasted by the political speakers gestures If this could be turned mauling rails how much better twould be for both the suffering public THE partisan papers are now to elect their men by abusing the other side A man who is demphool enough to be influenced by such rot ought not to be entitled to a vote I Brave Blen Fall Victims to stomachliver and kidney troubles as well as women and all feel the result in kill or have in possession squirrel between the day of February and 15th day of June Quail partridges or pheasants cannot be killed between January 1 and L The killing of doves is prohibited between February 1 and August 1 There is no restriction placed upon the killing of rabbits but it is generally accepted as the proper time after there has been frost There is danger of the law against tainted After a lingering illness Judge Oscar F Tillett quietly passed into the great beyond on Saturday after noon about 630 oclock His death was caused by a complication of dis eases peculiar to men of his age For several years he had been in declining health but he kept on his feet and bore up with remarkable energy and detirminationOscar was born in the town of Lancaster on the 24th day of December 1829 When at the age of 18 he united with the Baptist church to which denomination he remained until about twenty years ago when he joined the Methodist church during a revival at Bryantsville He spent his entire life in this town with excep tion few years in Lexington Dan ville and Richmond Most of the time was spent in the merchandise business his greatest desire being to handle oysters fish and market stuff He was married to Miss Emma Cox when a young man The writer has never known one who was a closer observer of men than was Mr Tillett He was remarkably quick to see the rediculous side of everything and if there was any fun connected with even the most trivial happening he was sure to see it He was always in a good humor and it seemed to be his chief aim to make it pleasant for those about him He was not endowed with this worlds goods but he was willing mind ready to do any good turn in his power for a fellow man I could nothelp think as the crowd stood about his grave what a greatamount of praise would be heaped upon his many acts of kindness had he been a rich man It may be fortu nate that he was moneygrabber for been the case he might have been so wrapped up in his riches so pennyproud so oppressive to his less favored fellows as to be mean But when Oscar Tillett died there was laid under the sod a man who had a heart is kind as throbbed in a human body While he was not an active church member yet he was absolutely free from backbiting gossipping meddling with other peoples business or making unkind remarks He always ready to smooth over the frailties and short comings of others Men who can truth fully claim that they live up to such traits are very few and far between At his grave Dr McKee made a few appropriate remarks and a choir posed of Jqp M Farm Governor dont forget that there is an other question on the ballot for your consideration which has no it so that be you democrat or re publican you can support it as a mon cause and one which will the long needed improve ments which have been going on in our midst during the past summer have brought us face to face with the problem of some means of protecting them from the ravages of fire which towns of her size in the state and is it any more than right that in return for what these gentlemen have so contributed to accomplish end that should do our little part in the way of a to protect the improvements they have so gen erously made With the present inadequate means for fighting tire what guarantee have they that theirnew buildings wont be destroyed same as the old and who ia our city is not proud of our new house and and would not to see it suffer the fate of the last one The cost of this they ask you to help them furnish is on the present assessed valuation of the towns taxable
