Some of our people are some-whinclined to be donl.tin.- Thomases, but they should not be so hasty to jump at conclusions. Now, nereare a rew facts we will state which go to show that Garrard is "t,bi people" in the case. In the first place, tne bouthern Railroad Co.. calcnl.-itw- i that this road would cost $25,000. per mue. Mr. Kespess' survey and pro-tishow that the lino so far as surviv ed, (which is nineteen miles beyond Brodhead) will not average $15,000 per mile. In the next nlace. he was limited to one per cent, in grade and curvature. His profile shows that at no point so far does the curvature or graue get. as nign as ins limit. Now that he ts into the only "stretch" that will take him into Jellico, does it look J reasonable to believe that the com pany will go to the enormous expense, and delay in time to run another line, which is ten chances to one will not come within the limit of curvat. urn and grade? Nay, nay. Pauline. Tho Southern has here just what she wants viz: a one per cent road, exactly half way between the L. & N. and Cincin nati Southern most all the way. W e make the above statements be cause they come from an indisputable source, and for the further reason that some may think the road a myth. iNow, there is but one thing left for us to do. It is for the people to get together and secure the right of wav through this county. The road will not be built through Garrard unless she gives the right of way. Nearly every land owner seen has been very reasonable in his demands, and we be lieve all will wheel into line. But the thing to do now is to get the matter in black and white. There is not a person in Garrard county that will not be benefitted by this road, and ail will see it this way if they will only stop and study the case. The farmer will be given two shipping routes to Cin cinnati and Louisville, and, greatest of all, it will open a route for him to ship his grain and other products to tne boutuern market, which will, ere long, far surpass the north. Th is road runs through the finest coal and timber in Kentucky, and, being on a direct line, will it not give you better rates than you could possibly get other wise? By giving you better rates to market, and furnishing you coal and lumber cheaper, is not that a benefit to you? This Is a serious matter and one of vital importance to every resident of the county. We will have to uauu uruunu me nat" to pay for this right of way, but, dear reader, what. you contribute will return to you ten- ioid. we know of almost enough money already promised to pay for the entire right.of way, provided some fellow does mot waat to googe his twice the price of the land Our neighboring counties, Boyle and Lincoln, are hustling for the road, but their only chance for securing it is by" Garrard failing to put up the right of way, and in this we are. confident they re on a cold trail. le The llullroad. Mormon preachers have been ceiving rough treatment in some parts We cannot see why of Kentucky. they should be molested. No one has to balieve their teachings. If til people want to do a good tuin by the cause of Christianity they should tar and feather some of many hypocrits who take leading parts in our religious gatherings and, the moment they leave the building, resume their devilment. By the word "devilment" we do not mean the poor fellow who soaks liquor, but the heathens who make adverse criticism on people, refuse to contribute to worthy causes, hound to death those who happen to owe them and watch a few little rusty dollars like a cat watching a rat hole. Its this class of snakes who hurt Christianity, and not Mormon elders. These money lovers would never attend church if the law did not compel them to close up on Sunday. Kentucky press boys are now "mixing up" over the fall election. Keep cool, brethren.
