Mrs. Yocum, a visiting teacher who, by vote of the Institute had been made an honorary member, also gave a very interesting talk on the subject, which was received with special attention. - n, College at Winchester, was introduced to the audience and made a very interesting address, setting forth the great responsibility of teaching, and also the importance of each one thoroughly fitting himself before beginning the work. Dr. Pollett, of Harrodsburg, was also introduced and spoke briefly, but encouragingly to the teachers. ' The subject of Advanced Geography was opened by Mr. Durham, who was followed by Miss West, who showed her "Product Map." This was a new idea to some, and interesting to all. Miss West was followed by Prof. Patterson, Mrs. Gulley, Miss McCarley, Messrs. Baker, and Moore, each one speaking briefly. Oral Geography was then discussed by Miss Royston, who occupied the time very pleasantly till the noon recess. The afternoon session opened with music; and Miss Allie Dunn explained to the teachers the use of the "Tense Tree." as given .by Prof. Park. The subject of History was next taken up by Miss Lizzie Tomlinson, and also discussed briefly by Mrs. Arnold, and closed by the Instructor. After a recess, Prof. Grinstead, of Danville, who is well known and much loved by Garrard county's teachers, explained fully his most excellent method of teaching Mental Arithmetic. The audience then joined heartily in singing "America," at the close of which P. W. Grinstead, agent for the American Book Co., made an address which was by no means devoid of good sense and humor. Little Miss Edna Mason then recited a most excellent selection in a manner that would have done credit to any one of the teachers. Miss Alice Henderson kindly con sented to exhibit to the teachers an exercise with Indian Clubs which was very highly appreciated by every one present. The last exercise of the day was a paper on the subject of reading, by Prof. Patterson. Many new, valuable and practical thoughts were present ed which ought to inspire every one who was present to give more time and effort to the matter of Good Read ing.
