thoughtlessly but people should con sider how lowdown such doings are Persons can be fined for disturbing plants trees or flowers of any kind in the Cemetery and if such depreda tions are continued the sexton will have some one arrested A Needed Improvement Strangers visiting our little city make many comments on the beauty of the Lancaster Cemetery but stand aghast when they come to the old time farmyard gate at its entrance It would not much to put a nice arched modern gate at the the lot owners be under many obligations if the would have it done The present outofdate arrangement is about as much in keeping with the beautiful place as would be a pair of farm bars Democratic Convention The delegates elected by precinct meetings met at the Court House Sat urday afternoon and made passenger trains on the Rowland branch thus giving us a double daily service to both Louisville and Cincin nati The plan we have contended for all along is that the day trains from Louisville and Cincinnati be run so as to meet at Rowland both north and south bound on Knoxville branch meeting there and let the three trains for Louisville Cincinnati and Iiddlesboro all pull out at the same time This would give ample time for each train to make its destination they leave Rowland sty at 1230 The passenger travel from all this section of Kentucky would then have connection to any point they and we are confident it would be a paying venture for the L N If there are any doubting on the question all we ask is that they study the matter for a few minutes and we are confident they will see the many advantages to be derived by both the railroad and traveling public The Railroad The executive committee of the Commercial Club held a meeting afternoon and selected Gov Brad ley to present Garrard countys claim the Southern Railway people in New York The representatives from other counties along the proposed route will meet in Louisville and to New York at once where they will lay before the and other officials the many to be obtained by building the road The more the proposition studied the more plausible it ap pears There has been some talk of the Southern buying the R N I equivalentrepair and further fact that a miles more of track con in addition not much ere fence the report j fis stated several times in THE RECORD the proposed new road would be only nine tysix miles in length and would form link connecting the Southerns road in the northwest and south The building of this road would mean great things for Garrard county As a gentleman said yesterday It would save us enough to pay our tax in that it would give cheaper rates our wheat corn cattle etc to the markets of both Louisville and Cin cinnati to say nothing of bringing in our coal and goods atfar less rates than we are compelled to pay The the road are quite favorable but we may possibly However the thing to do is hustle and bring all influences to bear to get t t close Thom L es Saturday proceed there were as this was the only shipping point then for three or four counties around An old says he has seen all the warehouses yards and other places to store freight full and people did not have room to put their goods Then about 300 hands worked here all the time building boats to ship freight down the river There has not been much business here for several years but business has begin to know not what he will do next If something is not soon done for our roads you will find this county in a wilderness of mud and why not run some one for Representative that lives on mud roads that will use his efforts to enact some law that will prorate the public moneys on all roads as pikes are nothing more nor less than county roads and why tax the mud splitters to build and repair pikes and not one cent put on the mud roads Is it fair and equal play An swer ye shrewd law makers and pike riders I am sure if you would answer truthfuly you would say No Then give us a candidate that lives on the Little Robert Cochran who Died 7 1898 My wife and I were at Chichasha Indian Territory when the sad news of the death of little Robert Cochran came to me When I first read that Robert Cochran was buried Nov 8th I could scarce believe it true but when I reflected a moment I was that life is only as a silver thread which when broken leaves the body to fall while the spirit takes its flight to the God who gave it to be with Him forever more Then while I sit in meditation of the happy home as it used to be when I lived with them of the playful cheerful boy with the other children of the household making the home a delightful one but now Oh so still and cold in death my eyes tilled with tears of sympathy for the parents who I knew were heartbroken and The fond hopes and expectations of the parents for their boys earthly career is cut short and they are left to mourn their loss but ah they do not mourn as those who have no hope far through the veil of affliction the light of faith came forth for behold What is our loss is Heavens gain for Of such is the Kingdom of The boy has died to live forever lIe might have lived to die forever Is not heaven more rich and real to the this to say of the girls of the Southland The girl is by a life far truer and more con ducive to selfdevelopment than girls living in other sections because social conditions are more normal Her life is healthier because it is saner and her mind by reason of it is clearer and more constantly at rest The rush of life on the North and West is not so stimulating as many Southern girls On the contrary it wears Women out as often as it developer them In no part of our country do women look younger at than in the South To the Southern girl too Nature blooms in a profusion as she nowhere else The natural history which the Northern girl must get out of books the Southern girl gets direct from own hand She is born of a soil as and col orful in romantic history as is the tnre of Spain This she received natural heritage Her parents are and her ancestors were among the bert types of American chivalry and American womanhood She hears but one language spoken and that la her own If there is the
