He prefaced his sermon by remarking that for sixteen months ho had done the bOht he knew how in administering spiritually to his people and trusted it had done good. His scripture reading was descriptive of Heaven, and this word Heaven was his theme. His language was impressively glowing, eloquent, and melting in its pathos and tenderness. He divided his discourse into three heads: "Heaven:" "Where is it?" and "Who go there?" He said if there was a better book than the Bible, and it could be presented to him, and he could believe it was superior to the "book of books," he would accept it, but so far in the world's history no such a book had been presented. By the Bible he proved beyond cavil there was an imperial city of gold for God's elect, first by Christ himself, then by Paul and John. He characterized the Apostle Paul as the greatest and grandest man that ever trod the earth. He believed Heaven was near us, not beyond the firmament, for astronomy taught the "beyond" ended with the starry setting. "Who go there?" The pure in heart, the faithful, loving followers of the Lord Jesus Christ and those who kept his commandments." When he spoke of the loved ones that had gone before and those who would 'follow "the whole family in Heaven" it touched many hearts and brought tears to many eyes.
